I literally JUST got contacts, and it takes me FOREVER to put them in. because of this, I was wondering if I can sleep in them and put them in the night before.
Unless they're the type of contacts meant to be left in for an extended period of time definitely do not. I've had contacts since I was 11 (now 22) and I developed an allergy to my contacts from over-wearing them. Now if I wear them for more than 8 hours for consecutive days my eyes get all red and itchy. And I've never worn them overnight in my life. Your eyes are very sensitive, think about it, it's a piece of plastic on your eye and your eyes needs sufficient oxygen and time to rest. You only have one set of eyes. Treat them well.
Its hard to get them in for the first couple of weeks, but once you figure it out, it gets really easy. It used to be a hassel for me as well now it takes me all of 10 seconds to put them in both eyes. Also I do not recommend sleeping in them because if they dry out in your eye, they are a bitch to take out.
don't listen to him. And yes and no. Some people will get really bad infection and some people could wear contacts for a month without taking them out once and they have no problem.
I've been wearing them for a couple of years now and basicly, practice makes it easier. Trust me, when I got them, it could take me 10minutes to put them in, now it's as easy as 1-2-3.
Trick is, try to make the lower part of the contact first, then simply apply gentle pressure so that all the air comes out of it, then blink and move your eyes around. to make it easier the first couple of times, put a drop of fake tears.
I have monthly contacts and all I do is, 1st week I sleep in them, then after 7 days, I leave them in the solution for the night, then I pop them back in and i'm good for a month. Just make sure if they start to dry up, take them out. and watch out when sleeping in them. Some people move their eyes around too much when sleeping and the contacts could get lodge in the "back" of the eye.
You get use to putting/having them in. It's best to work up the amount of time you have them in for.
Do not sleep with them in unless they are specifically designed for it. I use to take naps with them in all the time. But, one night I passed out drunk with them in and woke up with scratched corneas. My tolerance for wearing contacts has never been the same
IT DEPENDS ON THE KIND OF CONTACTS YOU HAVE
ask your eye doctor
i can sleep in mine, and usually leave them in for about 3 days at a time
don't leave them in for too long, though. Yesterday i almost lost mine over the top of my eyeball, spent like 20 minutes trying to fish it out, it was sketchy
First time using contacts is a learning experience. It took me a while to learn how to put them in and take them out. I've slept in mine plenty of times without any problems waking up. I wouldn't suggest doing it right when you get them, though. Let your eyes get used to them being there first.
Reading this thread made my eyes water especially the post from the kid who said he almost lost his at the top of his eye and he had to "fish" it out hahah. I have never had glasses or contacts but my best friend has contacts and watching him put them in makes my eyes water like crazy.
youll get good at it. trust me i started wearing contacts in 8th grade. takes a bit but soon ull get em in first try. I always put some of the saline solution they give u into the contact and then put it in. the extra liquid helps it feel better goin in.
DONT SLEEP WITH THEM IN! Unless they specifically say you can sleep with then DONT DO IT. Both my brother and I have gotten eye abrasions from doing this and its the worst pain. Its literally a cut or bruise on your eye. Not only can you not open it to sunlight but you can't move it period under your eyelid. The most frustrating pain i have ever been in.
It takes two seconds to take em out. Don't be lazy. Its become such a habit that even when im completely blacked out, lost my wallet, clothes all over the place, shit knocked over, my contacts are always in my contacts case. Make it a habit and oyu wont regret it
For my first 2 or 3 weeks I HATED my contacts. They took me 20 minutes to put in and when I did get them in they hurt like no other. Over time I got used to them and now, I love them. I question how I could even see before I got them. Just give it some time, you'll get really used to them though it's frustrating at first. My tip for you when youre just starting is to put a drop of solution into the contact each time you they to put them in. It will create more surface tension and they will stick better to your eyes. As far as wearing them whole you sleep I've done it once and I hate the feeling of them when I wake up. A buddy of mine on the other hand has contacts that are weekly and aren't meant to stay in your eyes when you sleep, the other day he ays he's left them in since Christmas day and night so its probably your call on that one
i sometimes sleep with them in but on the other hand once and a while they tear in the morning and thats not the most pleasant thing waking up with. just take them out get some practice. when i first started it took me like 20 minutes to get em in/out and now i can do it in like 5 seconds.
Fuck mobile... I have both eyes that need it, I can usually get away with sleeping in them without any problems but I didn't do it until at least 3 years later. It all depends on brand/type
I have dailies I dont sleep with them in usually.....
But when I do it's a really late night with friends and It does not do much as long as your not constantly sleeping with them in. BUTTTT in your case just practice and taking them out can be hard at first also. So everything you do is helping you. Except sleeping in them.
Sleeping in them has various results one of my friends has done it and woke up fine when another who claims his eyes produce more protein than normal woke up unable to see i strongly don't recommend. Even if i just dose off for a few hours with them in my eyes will fell awful. Since you just got them your going to be having some troubles but after a few days of using them you will be able to put them in much faster and easier.
When you are putting the contacts in try to remember to look past your finger into the mirror. Also, if your contacts aren't designed to be left in overnight DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN. The effort to take them out is worth more than injuries to your eyes or having your contacts in some uncomfortable places.
Fuck sleeping in contacts. Worst feeling ever when you wake up. Just keep working at it man. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly and it'll be like they aren't even there.
Take your middle finger and your thumb and vertically stretch your eyelid while staring up.
It seems alot easier, also make sure your hands are dry so you can hold it open.
for me personally ive found that when putting them in, dont do it as soon as you wake up. give your eyes 15 or 20 minutes to wake up and get all the sleepies out. seems everytime i put them right in they always sting like a bitch for a few seconds then settle in.
also i agree with the person above talking about getting the contact stuck behind your eye is horrible. i accidently slept in mine once and this happened. i was poking and moving my eyes around for half an hour getting both lenses out. finally did and they were so dry and not round i had to just throw em out.
haha every single part of this post is exactly what I've dealt with. I can be blacked out and lose everything, but my contacts will always be in their container if I make it home that night.
didnt read thread but heres my experience: you learn pretty quickly how to put them in faster so just be patient. ive accidentally fallen asleep with mine in plenty of times and nothing bad has happened yet but your eyes need oxygen and they can kinda burn sometimes if you wear them too much
+1 Been wearing contacts pretty much daily for over 15 years. I sleep with mine in for weeks at a time and my eyes are fine. i'd recommend taking them out at night, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. at least, that's been my experience. worst thing that's happened is I've woken up with a lot of eye boogers...throw in some drops and I'm good to go..
Don't sleep in them, your eyes won't like it. And it feels terrible. Also don't were them on longer trips in cars or busses, and never ever in a plane.
You'll get better at putting them in, don't worry. It took me forever in the beginning, but now I can do it pretty fast. After two years, I still hate them though. Better than glasses no doubt, but fuck I hate them. I'm getting surgery in a few years.
The first couple weeks will be bad. My first week it felt like I had sand in my eyes. It'll go away tho, just don't wear them too much when you're still getting used to em
I wouldn't sleep with them if you aren't supposed to. But when I first got contacts it took me forever to get the left one in. I still always put my left one in first because I knew I could get the right one in at the beginning haha.
Try looking up and out to the side (up and left for left eye, up and right for right eye) and that should make it easier.
It depends on the person. I used to wear mine for multiple weeks at a time, not takin them out at all but my girlfriend told me how bad it can be to I've been taking them out every night. I advise you do too.
Make sure they're not upside down. Also, wash your hands well so they don't have dirt and shit on them. At first it takes a while, after 8 years I put them in just by touch
DO NOT sleep with them in, and definitely don't put them in water if you don't have solution, it stings like hell. I've had em for 7 years and don't even notice taking them in and out.
I had the same trouble when i first got mine. It does take some getting used to but i would give it a week or two. It is never good to sleep in them if you can avoid it. It dries out your eyes
this makes me kinda scared for my eyes because im on my thired day sleeping with these contacts, but ive done it before and it doesnt bother my eyes at all.
