Shaun White Definitely Made that "Ankle Injury" Up

The guy threw down the best run in the history of half pipe last night. Seeing him limp down the slopestyle course after a run of rolling down the windows made it actually look quite serious. He should never have tried to compete in slopestyle, he bowed out by claiming he had an injury. He can't compete with the competition in slope, its so easy to see. Those guys are on a much different level now.

Even in the interview after his first run on Pipe, when they asked about his injury. The only thing he said his ankle prevented him from doing was Slopestyle. Paper Bitch. God I can't stand the dude as great as he is in Pipe.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him drop out of slope, but even though he may be a giant tool, he is so god damn good at superpipe.

Yeah there's no way anyone else would've been given a perfect score for that run. He was tail edged outta the second hit and he put both hands down on the last big spindy flippy thingy he did. Think the judges were blinded by his long hair and sexy hot pants and forgot he was a dude for a second.

I dont like the guy but I reckon he could show everyone up in slope too if he really wanted to.

Maybe he just drugged himself up and put injections in his ankle so that he could compete in the pipe?

If you saw the run he "hurt" himself on you'd see he landed everything perfectly, there was no point in that run where he'd have been able to hurt himself that bad.

-Has more on screen time then any other athlete, they fucking whored him up

- Rents out breck for two weeks, doesnt even compete in slope

- Doesnt carry his own board

- Doesnt even make friends with any other boarder

i dont hate him because he is successful, i just don't like his contribution to the sport in general.

1.) he represents one dimension of snowboarding; Competitive halfpipe. However the publics eye thinks he is Snowboarding. He never produces film segments anymore (or ones that are out of the halfpipe atleast). He has produced a lot of Jay leno segments and stuff though... in which he never addresses other people in the sport which brings me to my next point.

2.) He never deflects glory to his peers. It's always about him. McMorris should have been the storyline at X with his Slopestyle and bigair triumphs, but no... shaun whites ankle and perfect score was. He should credit the dudes that are better than him, not try and blame his ankle for the reason he didnt compete in a contest he would have lost anyway

3.) with the exception of his new double at the end of the run (gotta admit, its a pretty dope double) the dude hasn't progessed his routine for like 6 years. Same tricks over and over again. This point is more of a callout to the other dudes. Really, is shaun white like 8 years ahead of the entire field? If no one steps up by olympics in that sport, its seriously dumb.

i don't get why it's acceptable for boarders to do a straight air their first hit, or at all for that matter. if a skier did it they wouldn't have a shot at coming anywhere close to the podium

well he IS invited, but u guys are right. he probobly wont show up, cause he s really not the worlds best snowboarder he s just really good at riding pipe. I hope he doesnt say its his fucking ankle tho, if hes able to score a 10 in superpipe im sure he can ride some pow

While not a requirement at the X-Games, it is a requirement in FIS snowboard halfpipe competitions. The reasoning I've heard is to keep the sport related to its roots and also to show control within the run.

"Ohh if your so damn good at riding pipe then why dont you show us how you do on a real mountain???"

FIS actually requires snowboarders to include a straight air in their runs, so it's pretty much a standard these days. they'll probably expect skiers to do the same.

I'm gonna go cop those animal print burton skinny's now.

no, and no.

Imagine doing 4 dubs in a single pipe run, now imagine going from 4 edge control to 2 - with your feet strapped apart at a set distance with no mobility. Id say to clean a run like that on a snowboard is considerably more difficult than on skis.

how is he the best? i haven't seen other snowboard halfpipe competitors but i wasn't that impressed. His tricks were clean, tech, but the last trick he did was sketch. no where near perfect

It's sad that he won't show up.

What's more sad is that Natural selection won't get nearly the amount of coverage as X games.

As much as we give shit to Tanner about his call out a couple years ago at redbull linecatcher he was 100% correct.

It also may have been a publicity stunt- Shaun White comes off ankle injury to receive a perfect score for a run that didn't deserve a perfect score (no run should ever earn one IMO). I'm assuming this is an ESPN/Shaun White publicity stunt.
