Crazy Fool

I'm thinking about starting a series of video reviews. It would obviously start with products that I currently own/can get a hold of, but I do know a bunch of reps/shop owners who might be willing to help me out if the series takes off. All the reviews would be my honest opinion of that particular product (given I have no real sponsors at this time, I'll have no ties to a particular product), giving both the pros and cons to the product. I also might add some tricks I've learned to get a product to work in a pinch if you don't have the time or tools to do it properly....but I have to consider safety with that aspect...

Just want some opinions before I go ahead and start into this. I'm thinking of doing it on a weekly basis, but we'll have to see since I work a full time job and go to school. It'd be nice if this could become a part of the NSTV program as well...but we'll see on that. So le me know if you want to see this, and possibly some products you'd want me to review.

Great idea. When im looking into a product I always am on the search for unbiased and knowledgeable reviews. A video review is just that much better.

Make sure to stick to the unbiased aspect though. I really think thats what will make your reviews credible and stick out from the rest.

This is gonna be the hardest part...but I'll do my best. There are gonna be some products that are gonna be hard to find negatives on, but there is always something. I mean, it may not be an actual negative, but more of a preference kinda thing (i.e. a stiff park ski...not everyone wants that).

someone has to come up with an effective scale for measuring stiffness, like apply a certain amount of force to a ski and seeing how far it bends or something. cause when people say they thought afterbangs were stiff, you have a problem.

Yes, please do this! And I'm sure it would take off on NSTV because it would actually give most of us a reason to go there in the first place and since they are trying to promote it so much then having your vids up there would really add some credibility. Personally would be more interested in your reviews than most of what is running currently.

Please do this. I would really like a real unbiased review of the ski. Also I think it would be cool to talk about playfullness and speed and so on, and definitely give some examples of skis similar in feel. That would be much appreciated, please do it!

place the tip and tail of the skis on two table that are far enough apart so that only 6 inches or so at each end is on the table. place like a 30-50 pound weight in the middle and compare it with how low other skis droop down. maybe even put like a scale behind it, measure from where it started to where it ends up?

Not all skis have symmetrical flex though, so although that would be a good gauge on overall flex, it wouldn't be a good indicator of each ski's tip and tail flex. Like AR7s I believe have a stiff-ish tail and soft nose, which you wouldn't be able to show with your test.

Well this could be a way to gauge overall flex and if you are then looking for a pair go and flex em at your local shop, IMO the only true way to know if you are gonna like the flex without skiing them.

so maybe clamp the ski down between two pieces of wood and make sure that it ain't moving, then put smaller weight on the tip and tail?

Yeah, it would be helpful to see reviews of skis your hoping to buy! Many reviews are just saying the overall the specs of the skis. Where would you be uploading them?

I'll probably start working on the first one tomorrow, not sure if it'll be done tomorrow or not though.

Not sure which one to do first but I think you should definitely do the STH's and FKS's simultaneously.

I feel alot of people are stuck between those two bindings.

as said before, a lot of people respect your opinion and I see this being 1000000x better then what Smuggs(or whoever it was) did with the outerwear last year or a few years back. with all the hardgoods you said, IMO it would be a good idea to add different goggles and lens so that those threads can be no more in GT

I'd be mostly into seeing the Surface skis and ON3P skis reviews out of the ones you named. As for bindings I really would like to know about the Rossi Fks's.

Gonna do skis, bindings, boots (probably only FT though...I don't really ski on other boots, haha), probably goggles, and helmets, I'm probably gonna stay away from outerwear cause most of that's just fashion statement stuff unless Trew or Northface or something like that wanna throw some stuff my way, haha. I might do gloves/mittens too, but not sure on that.

First one is uploading as I type this, says about 5min left. I'll post it here once it finishes uploading/converting too.

By the way, this first one is kinda lame, apparently the lighting in my room sucks and I was tired so it turned out weird...gonna figure out a new format/place to film it, but I wanted to get this one out for you guys so I didn't want to take the time to re-film it since the information is the important part. Hopefully I'll be able to make it better as it goes on (thoughts and ideas are also welcome as well).

Just as a heads up, I'm working on a review of ON3P Filthy Richs (one of the more requested items). I was planning on having it released tomorrow, but bad weather has spoiled my plans (doing an on snow review of them, but we're getting rain for today and tomorrow).
