Help Glidecam 2000Pro w/ T2i

So i've been using my T2i with my glidecam and it seems like the camera is just too damn light. I can get it to balance fine but any wind at all really fucks it up. I'm thinking I need to add more weight to the top plate so i can add more on bottom and make it overall more stable. Anyone gone through this? How did you add weight on top? What did you use for weights? Any advice would be tight

use the weights that come with it?


light glide cam setups are easy on the arm, but harder to control

The pole is already near as short as it goes, so I can't really do that. The camera is just too light to be stable in the wind. I added some more weight under the top plate and made the pole longer. It is wayyy more stable than it was before. Thanks for the advice tho

t2i is too light of a camera to use with the Glidecam 2000. You need to add more weights to the top and then match that load on the bottom in order to balance it correctly.

Bad. Cause of that kit lens, save some money and buy a new lens before a glidecam.

Again, too light.

If you're using anything lighter than a 7D, a Glidecam 1000 is more suitable.

really? my buddy has been filming for a few years with his t2i and sigma 17-40 with the 2000. he recently just upgraded to a 7d but nonetheless he never had any issues with weight

17-40 is a beefier lens than any kit lens.

My 11-16 and T2i with a filter is perfectly balanced on my 2000

Yes, the lens adds a fair bit of the camera's overall weight. Bare bones t2i + vintage prime would constitute a 1000, whereas a more common lens like a L glass or Zeiss glass would make you need a 2000 at the very least.

urgg. i do have a filter on my kit lens but that still probably means i have to drop more money on a hd1000 then a 2000pro. suggestions?

If you're planning on upgrading glass, keep the 2000. If you're planning on keeping the kit lens, get a 1000.

I will say that the HD series is a phenomenal improvement on the pro series. Just something to consider.

To improve operational stability on a light weight Glidecam, You can also rotate the base 'sideways' to improve the side-to-side inertia and stability.

Camera: Facing Front-to-Back
Base plaform: Facing Side-to-Side

i have canon 60d with kit lens on a 2000hd and i do have weight problems (one weight on either side. it is balanced but since it's light it is still jerky). if anything buy additional weight to connect on the top of the camera

The 2000 should come with enough extra weights to add to the top...purchasing more weights shouldn't be necessary.

Do most of you have your bottom weights set on either side of the camera (left + right) or lined up with the camera (front + back)? I have been using mine lined up with the camera, but maybe side to side is better?

i have mine parallel with the camera. For awhile, mine was broken and at about a 45 degree angle and it didnt make any difference really since my bottom weights were symmetrical.

Try it out; you will find that moving counterweights side to side will add stability on the side to side axis, eliminating the side to side roll the can be experienced with light cameras. It really can make a difference. It was designed for this reason and part of the versatility of Glidecam.

Only if you use a Manfrotto tripod. I still haven't figured out a quick release system...

even though i don't use a manfrotto tripod, i use the manfrotto 394 quick release. yeah its a pain to switch plates when going from tripod/glidecam or vice versa, but i love the quick release that i use

...wouldn't that sort of negate the whole purpose of a quick release if it isn't compatible with your tripod plate?

I think I will just keep my telephoto lens collar on the Sachtler plate, and put a quick release on the body.

i think he means its easier then taking the whole top plate off the glide cam and having to readjust overtime you put you camera back on.

this is exactly what i mean. yes i understand that the whole purpose is to switch from tripod to glidecam seamlessly, but its not the worst thing to do. waay better then not having one for sure

Oh, I was referring to the HD2000. You don't have to rebalance every time you take the camera on/off. Honestly, using a quarter to unscrew a quick release plate would take way more time than popping the "quick release" plate off the HD 2000.

I just got mine yesterday and it's pretty well stabilized with quick release plate, a t2i with battery pack, and tokina 11-16. i'll be dropping a little test edit in the next couple of days

will a t3i with kit lens, and eventually like a 55-250 and 11-16 tokina be fine on the 1000. why would i need the 2000?

not trying to be a dick to anyone here. but for those 2 posts above, look up the weight of the camera and the lens then see which glidecam fits you best. Its that easy. then eave a bit of room for upgrades if you think your going to add on to your setup.
