I meet a lot of people that share the same opinion as this. Trust me....I want what's best for the country and you do too. It's all of our lives, investments, properties etc etc right. Our families have lived here and we will probably live here.
I understand your frustration of welfare slugs. Dependency on a system without contribution IS indeed a problem. There are people out there that abuse it. However the social welfare system is not there to pay people "not to work". I'm really glad you admitted you are not into politics because there is a lot to be learned about a consumption and aggregate demand driven economy. Unfortunately you have been swept into this emotionally charged argument of welfare slugs. They are an easy target since they are essentially stealing our hard earned tax dollars and buying crack-cocaine right?
Well to me I never here any outrage on the other end of the spectrum. I never hear anything about how both the public and private sector severely misallocate money. Trust fund babies, farm subsidies, tax loopholes that the rich don't pay (actually accounts for more than welfare slugs). It is a one sided argument and since the majority of this country is white and middle-lower class we look down upon those of our own. We are a country obsessed with having something lower than us to compare ourselves to that we often forget how entrenched we are in a social structure.
As for me, I think it is a plague to have a 2 party entity in politics. I try as much as I can to analyze every issue fairly and factually and try to maintain some sort of logical balance.
