Car accident help!

So this weekend I slept at my friends friends house.
I parked my car in a way that the next morning we could leave early without the problem of having everyone to move their cars to get out.

That same night later on, some other guy parked kind of behind me not totally blocking my way out.
In the morning I was backing up without looking back ( 5am ) since I though no one was blocking my way and I hit his car, not going fast at all.

It scratched the paint and did a bit of damage. See photo bellow.

I was in a hurry but didnt wanna be a bitch so I got in and gave him my number so that we could fix it.
Now I am Canadian and I was in the Us so I dont think my insurance covers that so I asked him to get a quote today.
The quote is for 1300$ worth of damage, shit is ridiculous, this is a 2003 pickup with 130000, my dad owns a used car dealership and we checked today, the value of the car before damage is 3000$ max.

I though the guy would just let it go since its an old truck but I guess he wants to get some extra cash.
I explained my money issue to him, how all my money goes into my health rite now and I dont even make 1300$ a month.

I asked him to get another quote tomorow because this just doesnt sound rite.
I know im responsible of the cost but im sure hes just gonna leave it like this and make some extra cash over me and I find that really lame.

Im in a pretty bad situation rite now so please be serious I need some advice.
p.s I already have the pay the damage on my car which is much worst than this ...

for them to fix that the shop is going to have to take off the whole entire rear side panel, fix the dent, sand it down completely, and repaint the whole thing. 1300 sounds about right to me.

1300$ is probably an accurate estimate. paint+prep + reshaping large panels is very expensive.

also, you'll probably just want to pay outright for such a small settlement (relatively speaking), as your deductible will skyrocket.

Im sure your dad has hookups with auto repair shops if he owns a used car dealership. Those white scratches may just buff out and to get the majority of the denting out, go space between the outside and bed liner and gently try to tap it out with a mallet. Shouldnt take to long if your careful.

My dad does but I live in Montreal, the guy is from Mt snow which is 5 hours apart.

1300$ is not even what i make in a month.
I have been getting physical therapy and I got 3 surgeries since december, let me say I dont have the money and I cant make it because I cant work rite now.

well if your insurance isn't valid in the states, he will probably sue you for the damages.

my advice: take out a loan. you want to avoid taking the law-route.. and interest will most likely cost less overall than a raise in your insurance costs.

I'm sorry, this is a really shitty situation..

honestly youre fucked. Talk to hiim and see if you can trade services, or make a payment plan...if you find him cute hint at sexual favors, but dont be obvious with it.

ask him if you can just give him $500 right now and you call it even, otherwise its gonna take a year or more of small payments.

It doesn't really matter how old the car is or what year it is (and since when is a fucking 2003 truck "old?").

It was absolutely your fault. Sounds like you'll have to pony up some cash. As somebody else said, get a loan and pay the money. Last thing you want is to get the law involved, in which case you will be looking at far more money.

then fuck him, tell him that you aint paying. he will then take you to small claims court where you both will have to pay a small fee-$50. you will then be found guilty and be forced to make payments to him. you win.

if he is being a dick to you, then be an even bigger vag back. if he takes you to court, all the court will do is force you to set up a payment plan...which is what you want. it will also allow you stall for time to get the money together. the canada/US thing might make it take even longer!

So I solved this with my dad.
Its not a hit and run but an accident since I got inside and told him i ran into his car.
I tried solving it<< amiable>> sorry I dont know the term in english.
But the ammout was too much, so he will have to call his insurance with my license and adress info and file it as an accident and the assurance will pay.

similar accident happened to my mom, my uncle who works for a dealership said to make a check to whosever fixing it so that way the guy wont just pocket it

1300 sounds pretty much spot on for that autobody fix. Honestly, filling the claim with your insurance will cost you much more than 1300 in the long run, perhaps try to get a loan from your family to make the payment. I would try at almost all costs to avoid insurance claiming this.

When you settle w/o insurance and w/o the courts, you dont have to get the car fixed with the money. You are entitled to the damages, wether you fix it or not. He can take that $1300 and slam that s10 and put rims on it and make it even crappier than it already is. Shitty to do, esp w/ your situation.

Imagine if that large, easy to see truck was actually a small, hard to see 6 year old and you killed him? How would you feel. Pay the 1300 and write it off as a very badly needed lesson in how to drive.

You can't expect to just damage someones property and have them not want it fixed asap. Especially if it is not someone you are very close with or see regularly.

mmm hmmm. Also, what if he wants to sell it or trade it in? A big ass dent doesn't help its value to anybody. Just because some people don't find value in fixing, or paying for, a dent in a pickup truck doesn't mean that owner has to as well.

It is somewhat like some of the dipshits on here that jack some shit from Walmart, get caught, and get pissed when they are getting penalized because "they [walmart] could afford it"

I had a super pathetic accident like that once. I was sitting behind a GTI ( I had a GTI at the time too) at a traffic light. I had been there for like 30 seconds. I was wearing flipflops. Right as the light turned green, it was falling off and I tried to flip it on quick and ended up stepping on the gas prematurely and giving the GTI in front of me a little love tap.

Anyway, the way it worked out was that my front license plate pushed into his ever so slightly and stretched the plastic in a spot that you couldn't see it unless you got down on your knees.

Anyway, I wanted to settle outside of insurance. He went to the a place his insurance recommended. They said that insurance companies got a discount and it was only $700 to fix it, or $1200 with out. I said I'd rather pay the $1200... but because it was over $750 he said he had to go through his insurance and report it....

So yeah, I got to pay the $500 deductible and had my insurance go up by $40 a month for 2 years. Not that much more expensive... but he was still a dick about it. I was absolutely furious. Especially since I called the VW dealership and they quoted me $800.

Shit sucks..... If it were my car... I'd want it fixed, but my car is also still worth about $13,000.... But I'd be down to settle and take a few small payments, cause that shit has happened to me.

Sorry that some people suck when it comes to cosmetic stuff.

Don't be so self-centred and only think about your situation. I'd be pissed off if someone drove into my car and did that.

Who are you to decide his truck is shitty and supposedly old? He might have worked his arse off to buy that and it could be his pride and joy. It doesn't matter if it's only worth $3000. Fact is that you drove into it and damaged it. Panel work is very expensive - $1300 seems pretty reasonable to get it fixed.

The only good thing you've done is to go and talk to him about it.

I've been on the revieving end in a similar situation, only worse because who ever drove into my parked car didn't leave a note. I have a big crease down 2 side panels. It sucks because now my car looks like shit, value has dropped hugely and people assume I drove into something when really some idiot drove into me and didn't stop. If I get it fixed I'm out of pocket for someone elses fuck-up.

So if you look at it from his perspective you'll see that it's not fair that his truck isn't repaired to the same standard it was before you drove into it.

don't listen to californiagrown he's a fucking idiot, if you stall the guy with payments he will bring you to court and you will end up having to pay him back for the court fees as well

It is 100% your fault he is under no obligation to make things "easy" for you..i would be bullshit if some dumbass hit my parked car too

you damaged someone elses property, you are obligated to repair it to the value before the accident
