Trying to get dirty by the end of the season, help !!

so heres the catch.... i have a huge problem approaching rails, yeah ive hit rails before but every time i end up psyching myself out to the point where i get up to the rail and cant pop enough off the ground and cant lock on. im really looking to, before the end of the season, be able to accomplish riding on street style/not ride on rails.... any suggestions?? . Guys please help :)

don't hesitate at all. hit a low to the ground rail and think to yourself that it doesnt matter if you fall. i think it help me if i ride up really parallel with the rail and the just pop a tiny bit sideways.

Remember that speed is your friend. The more speed you have the easier it's going to be to balance.

Just gotta commit... It's all about confidence.

Keep your legs nice and wide, 70% on your front foot, %30 on your back.

I know as a girl myself we have tendencies to think about the WORST possible shit that could happen, and a lot of times the stuff we think up couldn't even happen. You gotta get off the lift and just ski up and do it. Don't stop and stare at it or you'll tweak yourself out.

It's just mind games.

I had a problem with this too. Speed defintely helps. Jump a little bit at the lip and really try to spin that 90 on. At first you're gonna have to really exagerate the preloading to get it done but after you get more comfortable it wont require as much work.

Don't look at your feet. Make sure when you spin on your feet stay spread apart. Be loose and keep your knees bent and put more weight on the whatever foot is downhill. The harder part will be trying to not land switch when you come off the rail at first, unless you're fine switch already.

make sure you keep your body centered. i used to have issues with rails until i realized i was leaning back way to far when i landed. also what i do for confidence is yell at myself when im coming in little with confidence

just yell "DONT BE A LITTLE PUSSY" at yourself over and over again. boosts my confidence super high.

I tried the whole getting mad at myself thing. Just put me in a bad mood and made me ski shitty... Gotta be stoked about skiing and your riding level.

i tend to put my back foot on like a half a second before i put my front on....i guess this is just natural because the rail slopes down so it should happen if i jump level

For sure! =) It's all about confidence. And honestly a lot of times I would just keep freaking myself out until one day I had enough and I told myself I just wasn't ready. I went and skied the rest of the day and did what I COULD do and had a BLAST. I took it at my own pace and soon enough I was like "shit, I GOT this!" and started trying things with confidence... it got SO much easier after that. It's just getting past that first step. If you're actually not ready and just keep tweaking yourself out you're going to get mad at yourself and not have fun and when that happens you ski bad. Just believe in yourself and don't think about falling or you're going to.

honestly girl, you have literally explained out exactly what ive been trying to tell people. i think im about at that point where im ready. ive been pushed in the past and that definitely doesn't work for me. haha Your so right about going my own pace because after everyone laid off was when i decided that i wanted to push myself. the inspirational words of aligee workin magic ahhaa thanks again girl you definitely helped me alot. so stoaked to get out there and figure this out.

disclaimer must be 18 to enter the rail garden:) hahaha j/k if you have boxes down in the park just step over to a small rail on that is just off the ground. same principles apply. just gotta go for it.

I find it easier to hit a rail if I squat down super low for the pop. I don't think about it at all, rails are not super technical so you can afford to not think about it right before hitting it.

ahah im not sure about as bad but its some pretty intense pain. I hit a 34 foot liek rail type thing ( check it on my prof) and i totally caught it to the knee then tacod over it from not popping enough. i had some naaaarsty bruises and sicknaaasty pain.

My brother who is a doctor just said:

But I don't care what you think. I would rather get my balls hit once in a while than have cramps and bleed out of my ass once a month and have to go through child birth.

Ha i agree with you. Yeah, it hurts to get a rail in the crotch but i really doubt that it hurts as much for a girl... I have definitely had way worse pain then a rail in the crotch!

Okay I'm not talking the wide ass rails. Skinny ones. Even when you were little and fell off your bike seat onto the front tube. Come on, seriously?! Do you have a FPA or what?!?! lmao.

I have BROKEN my pelvis and that didn't hurt as bad as the initial rail to crotch.

I'm talking skiing ones too. Yeah i know it hurts but im just saying iv had way worse pain from rails etc. and a lot of guys say that getting racked is like the worst ever. . . i couldnt say that for myself..

Everyone has had a lot of good suggestions for you. I definitely know the whole "phyching" yourself out thing believe me! I definitely struggled with that for wayy too long. But what honestly made me over come that was being comfortable on rails. People told me a hundred times what to do and i would still Phych myself out which would often times cause me to crash in and of its self. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Hit rails over and over and over and over until it feels completely natural. For me it took way longer then i would have ever imagined it to and i would get so frustrated. Now i don't think about anything when i go up to rails.. You will get there girl. Just keep pushing, don't give it up!

the mental game was the hardest part for me. then i just saw enough people do it and i watched videos and read threads and built up my confidence so much and just went out an tried my hardest and ended up slaying my 2nd time around and i just kept progressing from there. once you do it a few times it isnt scary. the thought just vanish and you just start to think about what else you want to learn and everything is a challenge you have to overcome witch i love because i hate losing and if i fail i have to prove to myself that i can and i just drive myself to do better and better.

i honestly had no clue that this many people had struggles with it. and yeah its the whole mental game thats got me twisted. but i fersure am glad to have so much help from everyone on here. ive been skiing park for almost (kinda) a year now and its taking me way longer than i expected also ! i guess some day it will all become natural cant wait for that day haha i hate this mind game and the crashing haha

yeah, im at that point where im on the edge i could almost go out there and just kill it crash a few times and be ok with it and then theres another part of me that like dude your definitely not guna get enough pop to get on there, cant wait till this stupidness passes its making me sooo frustrated.

yeah its hard but you will get through it! i saw your post above about its kinda been a year. this year was my first serious year in the park and i have learned how to do the rail and now i can blind 270 out and im working on more, so once you break that barrier of thinking you cant pop enough to get on out of your head you are set to learn alot more. just think I CAN DO IT! a bunch and throw down

good, shows you dont need to say the gay callout "sorry for dub post or quad post", soo unnecessary.

my advice is slide straight on rails of any kind till your so comfortable you can do it with your eyes closed. if your at that point, there is no question you will have enough confidence to jump on a rail from the side, its a piece of cake.

Haha yeah its rough starting out, especially if you are like me and started out with a bunch of guys who already were crazy good. You feel alone for sure. But you will get it. One day you will get to the park and be hitting rails and be like- Fuck yeah.. mind game is gone!! Let us know how the season finishes out for ya! : )

Seriously listen to that Friday song posted above, go skiing, get pumped, and then just go for it. I learned on down cylinders I don't know why but they seem super harmless. I always find that I try more things when I'm listening to music and just having fun. Don't feel pressured to try something but just tell yourself that you are having fun and you will be way more stoked on your skiing if you hit that new feature or try the rail.

completely agree with the two different kinds of pain explanation, but until you have taken a shot to the gnads you really don't know. i have had much worse pain from breaking stuff and taking super violent falls, but i have never had such a miserable feeling as when "the boys" take a blow. theres not many places where you can hit someone with such little force and they get dizzy, vomit, cant see, and cant breathe.















but i hear squeezing a head through your cooter is pretty rough as well.
