FKS snapped in half - this ever happen to anyone else?

my FKS 155 just snapped clean in half on me, what the fuck? Anyone else ever seen that happen with these bindings?

ive seen that once or twice.  Just get a new baseplate and screw it in and you should be good to go.  on another note my mom ground half way through one of the arms from skiing with her skis so close together back in the day.

I did that exact same thing to mine on my park skis.  Hit the jump, landed, came to a stop and then just walked right out of my left ski.  Luckily I had an extra heel on my older skis.  Good luck man.

Surely DIN is an internationally recognised setting, if manufacturers made bindings that are '1.5 harder' wouldn't that render the entire concept of DIN pointless?

this. i thought a certain amount of measured pressure equaled 1 din. so on and so forth.

can someone explain din if this isnt the case?

DIN is not a standard, all springs are different, which is pretty obvious. for example, a setting a pair of px12s to 10 will still be weaker then a pair of p18s at 10

Did this on two occasions with the older Rossi Fks 155 (gold and black). Dude in the shop reckoned poorly adjusted forward pressure and also mega cold weather pattern. Luckily I had a spare pair with me so just put new baseplates on, going to try and build some in the workshop at uni that are a little tougher.

I thought that the pressure needed to release is a standard, but some bindings vary slightly, thats a big reason why you need to have a shop adjust your DIN

DIN is a standard, but the numbers on the indicator window are a rough outline of the torque values they should equate.

That being said, there is a range of pressure that corresponds to each DIN value, so even if it says one thing, a binding can test high and low of that. When function tested, the binding is adjusted to the torque value, not the DIN number shown in the indicator window (as they can sometimes be off, especially in older bindings)

'Maybe, but I know for a fact that the shop I work at adjusts the DIN with a salomon DIN chat that is supposed to be standard...

DIN (Deutsche Industrie Normen) is a standard (hence the "norm"). It's why all up-to-date DIN charts are the same from every manufacturer and in one proper functioning binding to another a 10 will release as a 10 should. What changes from binding to binding is the elastic travel in the heel; some bindings have more travel than others before they release you and this equates to more retention.

^unless 10 is the max the DIN will go; if the spring is fully compressed you will get inconsistent release values.

In theory all DINs are a standard. A Marker binding must be set using a Marker chart, and a Salomon binding using a Salomon chart. However, both charts for the most part are the same. The thing is that the springs, especially on used or older bindings, can change. That's why if you test the binding, they release within a specific range measured in Nm. If the binding releases within this specific range (which is standard across the board, a Salomon binding with a DIN of 7 will have the same range as a Look with a DIN of 7) then the DIN is accurate. There are times you have to bump the DIN up or down to make the binding release within the correct range for what the DIN is supposed to be.
