Why baseball is the best sport.

Yes, I am really doing this right now.
(For all of you that hate on baseball.)

First off, a high school baseball coach once said, "I can teach you how to play football in a week, but if you want to make the baseball team, you better have been playing since you were a kid."
(Extra information)


1. It is the hardest sport to play, (Hardest thing to do in sports: Hit a round ball with a round bat)
2. Only sport where the winning team can't run out the clock, (Pussy move anyway)
3. You have to be the best, and prove it, there are 162 games in a baseball season, 16 in the NFL, 82 in the NHL, and 82 in the NBA.
4. There is no time constraint, each inning has no set time, it can go for hours on end, 162 times a year.
5. You can fail 7 out of 10 times and be considered very good, 4 out of 10, gets you labeled "legend"
6. History is made EVERY season, undoubtedly a player will reach a milestone every season.

Last of all, and most importantly; those who say baseball is boring, you are only saying that for the mere fact that you...can't succeed at it.

Love baseball till the day I die, I just cannot stand watching it on TV anymore. I have played for 12 years, love it, but on TV it puts me to sleep.

baseball season means paychecks, but i'm all for it.

The only thing i really hate is the time. They really need to start enforcing some time limits, and make pitchers speed up.

I'm sick of getting out at 11:45pm because daisuke takes 8 minutes per pitch

ok, you're coach only mentioned football. what about lacrosse? and football isnt all that easy. when it comes to blocking techniques and schemes and 11 guys working in unison to run a play, its not nearly as easy as you think. plus there is so much work in the off season.

because baseball has so many games, each game counts soo little. in football, every single game counts so much towards your season. and running out the clock is a strategy, just like intentionally walking a batter. and the fact that you can fail 7 out of 10 times just proves to you that its a pathetic and boring game. its takes so little to be good.

and baseball games going on forever is exactly why its boring. i was at a lacrosse game the other day where the team came back, after trailing the entire game, to tie the game at 7. they then won in over time. now that was exciting. and thats why there are time restraints.

Soccer, Golf, Tennis are all sports that are sports are more difficult and challenging then baseball, o and all those sports I don't want to gouge my eyes out watching.

The sport is even fucking boring to play, let alone watch.

Fuck baseball, its almost as exciting to watch as NASCAR, or paint drying. I think its a game full of fucking losers too. These guys get payed a fuck ton and all they do is stand at a plate and flaunt their beer guts, do steroids and maybe run for like a minute every game.The way players argue all close to each other's faces and stuff is just infantile and down right gay too.

I'm not a football fan either, or a soccer fan. Frankly I kind of hate both. But I will tell you that 99% of sports other than baseball require you to be much more in shape and have endurance and stamina. Oh and also be in any kind of good shape.

Sparknotes: you're an idiot for voicing your opinion so boldly because no one really cares. And for the record baseball fucking sucks.

there are considerably harder and more impressive feats in the world of athletics than hitting a fucking ball with a bat. every time someone talks about baseball, that seems to be the only point they make to validate their argument. sure, there is an element of skill that is involved with baseball but as is the case with any sport. my biggest complaint is the lack of athleticism that is required to play(dont try to argue this, look at Roger Clemens - fat slob, also not the only professional player who was/is like that). and my final point, baseball IS boring to watch.. and that is not a subject statement but a fact that many people can attest to.

though it may seem like it, i am not trying to hate on the american past time. i just dont think that it should considered, in any light, the "best sport". there are plenty of other sports more worthy of this title.

football schemes and plays=memorize where to run and tackle the guy with the ball. of course this isn't true for a wr qb or rb, but for most it is.
in baseball there are 13 different ways a guy can score from 3rd, 11 from 2nd, and 9 from 1st. fielders have about .3 of a second to react to the hit. you have to know where to go and what to do on the fly rather then know exactly what you're doing before hand. and you seriously don't think baseball players work in the off season too?

you won't think games count so little when you miss the playoffs by one game. every game counts just as much to the season as football games do. failing as a batter 7 out of 10 times doesn't prove how little it takes to be good. its a testament to just how good pitchers are and how good you have to be to be a solid hitter. the best hitters of all time only have close to .400 batting avgs.

i've played in games where we have been down 5+ runs in the top of the 9th. we tie it, go into extras, and win by the 11th or 12th inning. thats just as exciting. most baseball games are about 2 and 1/2 hours. if you can't play a game that long then you are a pussy.

the reason I like baseball the most is because it's the only sport to evolve past the caveman premise of getting an object from one side of the arena/court/etc to the other and scoring in some fashion.

Also, the mental and strategic aspect of baseball is unmatched in any other sport. You have to appreciate those aspects to really enjoy the game.

I have played both baseball and tennis for my whole life. Tennis is more physically demanding and better sport. Can play anywhere from a 3 hour match to a 3 day match. usually the courts are a good 10-20 degrees hotter on court than the ambient temp, thus making playing in Melbourne, California, and Cincinnati 110+ temps usually. In baseball you hit a ball once going 90 mph, whilst in tennis serves can get up to 130 and regular volleys are at 90 mph. There is always running, unlike in baseball where the outfield stands until the ball is hit.

This being said, I do enjoy watching baseball more.

That's right, baseball isn't ACTUALLY a sport at all, it's a pastime. Like knitting, or collecting model cars. Totally badass.

While I understand baseball does require skill, I feel like other sports are just way more demanding, both mentally, physically and emotionally. The hard hitting sport, IMO (lacrosse, rugby-hocky, football and any others(listed in favorite order)) are way harder an better than baseball.

But really, make a more opinionated rant thread next time

Chess and poker. If it has a national championship it's a sport, therefore baseball is neither the hardest (harder=better IMO) sport physically mentally or emotionally as stated. Not saying I don't respect it though, I can see how people enjoy playing if their good, I've just always been more of a rough n' tumble kinda guy

i could easily make a list saying why ANY sport is the best. and all these reasons doesnt take away from the fact that baseball is boring, which in my opinion wrecks its chances for being the so-called "best sport". i have nothing against baseball just people like you annoy me, when people say your sport isnt fun or whatever and you get so sensitive about it that not only do you disagree but you also go so far as to say it is the "best sport"

Running to second base from first. Every game, every practice. Repetition, not that mentally challenging. Also, you go out to Circut de la Sarthe and drive upwards of 200 mph+ at 2 am in the morning after driving 3 hours already and tell me it isnt mentally challenging.

You're an idiot. Basketball has tall people, football has fat people... each sport has a niche for people who aren't the world's most athletic people.  What is the point of this statement? Roger Clemens was fucking incredible.  Not many people can throw a baseball 90-100 miles an hour and thats why they're paid millions of dollars to play a game.  Athleticism is definatly required in baseball dipshit. Just like any other sport.
