Advice for a ptex repair across a diecut

Hello!

I was slaying some pow, and managed to hit a rock hidden under the snow while on my Armada jjs at quite a bit of speed... the base has a single gash in it but it hasn't been cored (i.e it hasn't cut through to the wood core, just to the first layer of fibre glass)

However does anyone have any advice on ptexing across a diecut graphic? I've repaired using ptex before but never across a diecut graphic... Any hints/tips will be greatly appreciated and rewarded with some plus k. The last thing i want is for my repair to fall out...

What colour should I use? I have black or clear ptex. Here are some pictures

Any links to some other threads/online guides will be greatly appreciated. Like i've said before I have ptexed race base before but just not across a graphic...

I would go with clear.  Pretty much that's the best alternative.  You could try using clear for the diecut and black for the rest.  Trick with clear ptex is to keep the flame small.  Use a metal scraper to scrape of the burnt residue from the candle so you don't end up with black flecks in your base. If you do it right it will look good, if you have too much flame the fill will have brownish tint to it.  Also keep the candle very close to the base when you are filling.

i personally wouldn't care to go with 2 colors of PTEX, 1 homogeneous fill will be much nicer/easier and stronger......

and yes, keep the flame low with the ptex and make sure your skis are already warmed up a little
i've noticed that ptex doesn't stick very well to ice cold skis, i know, i'm a n00b :)

Ok thanks guys, some good advice there :) Bump for more advice/ previous experience with ptexing across a graphic? will there be any issues with the different base material/colour (ie the yellow/red diecut part) sticking to the ptex? also Still not sure which colour to go for....

This is because when your skis warm up, they expand EVER SO SLIGHTLY and the p-tex can then just fall out

I'd just go with the clear it'll make it look better. I always have trouble with the clear ptex turning out black and spotty so thanks for the advice Mr. Huck.

No worries.  Also to OP, Ptex is Ptex.  Color doesn't matter at all; it will stick.  When you scrape with metal scraper, try to take a little bit off at a time.  If you are too hard on it, you can gouge part of it out again.
