I'm stoked to announce a cool contest for Newschoolers.com members. Powder, NS, and Verizon/Samsung are giving you the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet! This thing is super sick and all you need to do is guess who the top 3 in the Powder Magazine Reader Poll will be.

To enter, type in who you believe the top 3 male skiers are in the 2011 Powder Reader Poll. The results of the poll will be announced tomorrow night live at the Power Video Awards. The first to guess correctly will receive a brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy tablet.

The Powder Awards will be streamed live tomorrow night at 9 pm MST right here on Newschoolers.com and PowderAwards.com!

im aware, just the fact that candide released the sickest edit/segment, won linecatcher and freeride tour and didnt even get top 10 makes the results stupid.

I don't disagree. The fact that Seth Morrison (who is sick) has won something like 3 times, even on years where he didn't do anything new, and the fact that Tanner Hall is on that list when he didn't ski for nearly 18 months is even more ridiculous though. The fact is, skiers don't put a lot of thought into their ballots, they just write down skiers names that they have heard before or who they have liked since they were 10 years old. I am not saying that nobody has heard of Candide, but he is generally not on the front of most skiers minds.

It is very hard to do something new in that type of terrain.  Skiing a huge AK line, and tossing a massive front flip off a cliff is a level of skiing that is only reached by one person right now, Seth.  It is a whole lot easier to progress things in a park setting than an AK setting.  Some years the snow does not cooperate, and it is tough to push things.  If you don't believe me, than tell me why no one has thrown a clean rodeo 7 off of a 70 foot cliff in the middle of an AK line?  Seth is a guy who can have one shot in a movie, and still be talked about.  I don't think calling Seth out for not doing anything new is called for here.  If it were park, yes, but NO ONE is stepping up and doing the kind of things Seth does.  There are people doing tricks off of cliffs, but not to the extent that Seth does.

Seth was a very deserving recipient.  I think the results of this poll show what happens when Powder tries to get the newschoolers involved.  It changes things completely.  Folks from this website stormed the boxes, and completely changed the poll.  I think that if the poll were limited to people who have voted before, the results would have been different.

I think Candide is on the minds of most skiers who really know what is going on in serious terrain.  He should have been on this list.  Having said that, it is a popularity contest. 

I was very impressed with Walliisch.  He had a humble reaction, saying something like "I don't deserve this."  He seems to have his head on straight.

I never said seth wasn't sick (in fact I said he was), all I said is that he hasn't done much new in the last 10 years yet he still wins. He wins because he is on the front of skiers minds. Many of the people that vote aren't too involved with the ski industry, they see Seth in movies, like his stuff (which IS sick) and vote for him. Candide has been doing much more progressive stuff and didn't win (like I said) because the types of people voting aren't thinking of Candide. I don't really know why you are trying to argue with me when we think the exact same way....
