Hello everyone, i have recently realized that there are to many GoPro threads lately as so many people have been purchasing them. I would like to clean up gear talk and ski gabber with this thread.

This thread is here for everyone to post any questions about their camera. You can post concerns or problems here too, and i am sure at some point your question will be answered by myself or another GoPro expert. you may also post a 'Found GoPro Mammoth' type of thing in here though a thread itself may be helpful to the person looking for it rather than feeding through this thread.

Ill start out with some basics and FAQ's for people:

quality thread.

and i will start it off. i have had my go pro for like a 2 years now, and lately it has been shutting off alot when i ski. like the light will flash 2 times and then shut off. it says im on video mode and everything. i crashed really bad kiteboarding with it one time so i dont know if that was it, and it kinda screwed it up. but idk. so does anybody know how to fix this, if you can.

so i recently lost my gopro hd hero in the snow when the adhgesive mount came off, i certainly could not be the only person to have lost it because of this, or am i the only idiot who didnt screw it into my helemt? if you lost yours what did you do or try to do to get it back from gopro or from your mountain i really need help.

also the adhesiveness may be compromised depending on the surface type of your helmet, i have a smith holt in matte white and mine has stayed on. i'm curious to see what surface type are the helmets with the ones that have fallen off.

post the kind of surface your helmet is if your gopro sticky mount has fallen off on.

i think its matte black, its a bern helmet. i have a mount on the front that stuck fine, but im so pissed that it just came off.

it could be alive tho with every other kid on ns having a go pro and wanting to talk about them/trouble shoot/ and post edits and tips. Think about it, all of those different things organized out instead of one huge messy thread in nsg.

FYI the mounts stick with 3m VHB 4991 adhesive tape. You can google it for more info, but here are some specs on it, http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?mwsId=SSSSSu7zK1fslxtU4Y_ZN8mxev7qe17zHvTSevTSeSSSSSS--

Here is a picture that shows which surfaces your mount will hold strongest to. The 4991 is a high surface energy so pay attention to that column. The higher the number the stronger the hold.

happy i found thread here, i need to upload GoPro footage to a iMac (FCP7) tomorrow and i literally have not a clue what to do, i know that with tape i just Log and Capture but i am not sure if that will work with a GoPro? answers that aren't snarky ass comments would be fantastic

1. download MPEG streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html)
2. open MPEG and drag the clip you want on to the 5 dots in the middle which should convert your video and open it.
3. when you have selected how much you want to use, hit File>Export to Quicktime...
4. under compression, select Apple ProRes 422
5. Set the quality to 100
6. keep the frame size unscaled
7. rotate the video if you filmed it upside down

then import that prores file to FCP and it'll come up in your timeline and bam, there you go

when exporting from FCP select the h.264 codec, bit rate between 5000 and 8000, 30fps, unscaled

or import through imovie which converts all the files to .mov, then drag those into FC

but really, if you can't figure out a gopro right from the get go, you are fucking retarded, there are 2 buttons on these things for a reason, and read the instructions if worse comes to worse

i learned how to do basic editing in final cut in about 45 minutes just based off of trial and error and googling how to do certain things. whenever you think to yourself "damn i want to do this but i don't know how," just google it and there will be tons of tutorials

PROBLEM / ISSUE / QUESTION:

I used my GoPro HD for the first time this past weekend, and many times it froze up. The display would just not change, and no matter how much I tried turning it on/off, hitting the different buttons, etc. it wouldn't do anything, and I had to take the battery out to reset it. This would happen in the middle if filming, and then it wouldn't save that clip. It wasn't that cold, so that couldn't be the problem. I have had a standard def GoPro for a few years and it never did this. I am using a Transcend 8 GB sd card and the guys at gopro said that could be it. Any other suggestions?

Final cut really isn't that hard. And we need one of these threads in M&A, every other thread is "WHY CAN'T I GET MY GOPRO FOOTAGE INTO FINAL CUT?!?!?"

3/4/5.u need a sd card. I have a 16 gig cuz that about how long the battery will last if ur filming the whole time in 960, and id get a class 10 cuz thats best for filming hd

10.dont know, personally i find it sketchy taking the camera in water atall, its 5 bills with a good memory card. i wouldnt risk it.

thats a bout all i got

the rubber is for putting on the clip for the 3m sticky it fits in there so the clip wont come out.

when i play back footage on my computer, it's in slo-mo, but only the video. the audio plays normally. i've tried in three different media players, and i know it probably has something to do with the fact that i'm filming 720p 60fps.

also i just put a sticky mount on my helmet but it doesn't conform to it very well, should i just press and hold it until it sticks all the way? idk it seems like it takes a lot of pressure.

I have a curved sticky on my Holt.. and the whole adhesive pad doesn't come in contact with the helmet itself yet it still seems pretty solid.. I have wrecked a few time just into pow and it stayed on no problems..

sticky mounts hold pretty well but i suggest getting some kind of thin wire or string and making a leash in case you lose your gopro. tie one end around the base and the other end around a vent in your helmet and it helps to have a clip in the middle for easy removal

that rubber leash isn't a leash it is to stop the clicking and rattling noises that the mount would make if you didn't have it

yep. and it makes it so you cant take it out of the mount unless you pull out the rubber thing, so it might make it more sturdy from falling out of the thign.
