Does Marijuana Go Bad?

So I found some weed in this old backpack of mine while cleaning out my guest bedroom closet. It must be at least 2 years old, if not older. I just took a grav of it, and I must say I'm feeling pretty nice. So in my new state of mind, I figured I would come on to NS, and ask if anybody knew if Weed can actually go bad over a certain period of time?

i had a bad experience with weed a couple months old...

dont touch it unless you want a splitting headache and feel like death for 4 hours

the only possibly dangerous thing I can think of would be mold, you dont want those spores in your lungs.

It goes very bad. That's why weed is illegal. If it's more than 6months old a process called fazermatation starts to take place. Basically the chemicals in the marijuana start to change into a highly psychedelic form of mold. It's nothing good though. The kind of shit that will make you sick and send you to the hospital though.


be careful man. I wouldn't touch it if it's been over a month or two just to be safe.

depends on so much, weed cant go bad as in grow mold but it can dry out for sure. As long as there was absolutely no air that got to it. I dunno if ur good now its good, it would have been really obvious if it was bad.

i wouldnt worry about it the worst part of old weed is the crust shitty taste. the headache is just cause of a dirty high and a steep decline of buzz

I'm going to clear some things up...

If you are getting a headache or getting a sick feeling from smoking weed it is either because
A) It is mexi brick schwag nastiness
B) or it has mold from poor storage (too much moisture in a closed environment)

If you have properly cured weed (dried out to the proper moistness) and then keep it in a mason jar out of heat and light, weed can be stored for YEARS and be just as dank as the day you put it into storage.

I bought a jeep wrangler a few years back and after owning it for a couple months I randomly unzipped the padding that went over the roll cage right next to the drivers seat and found an old nug. It was all dried out and yellow. My roommate tried to smoke it but it pretty much burned to ash and didn't get him high at all. I would say it doesn't go "bad" in a way that can harm you, it can just go bad in a way that it wont get you high.

This thread is missing something very relevant to the topic at hand. Storing it for longer periods of time CAN be ok if you are storing it properly!

No, this does not mean crumpled up in a plastic bag in your sock drawer.

But yes, mold is your enemy. No one needs a lung infection. If you are in doubt, throw it away.

the thc goes bad and dries up. think about this..u smoke good weed..u feel good the next day. if u smoke some shitty weed..u feel bad. now think about weed thats dried up and shit. thats gna feel really bad as well.

you can keep weed for up to about 3 years if you seal it in an airtight jar (mason jar) and put it in the freezer out of light. it'll be more dank than when you put it in!

...due to the curing process...but after like 4 months it's to its full potential. pretty much. yep.

eh.. it gets dried out and broken up... will be worse quality than when it was dank.... yet how old are we talking here cause if its really old you may have a headache coming. also if theres mold on it don't fuck with that. if its been in a jar out of the light it prob should be ok though light up have fun

I buy an ounce at a time and it lasts ~6 months or so. I keep it in old prescription bottle containers and it doesn't seem to really go bad. Dries out a little bit but I just roll j's or spliffs and I can't really tell a difference.

If you add an orange peel to dry weed, the weed will absorb the moisture from the peels. Be careful because you can over moisturize it.
