So it's been one of the warmest Novembers on record and as a result the ski season out here on the EC has really been slow to get moving. I can't even ski until mid March so for once in my life it's not bothering that much, but I feel bad for everyone that's not been able to shred as much as usual. What kind of frustration has this caused you? And how much money will EC resorts lose if not open by Thanksgiving? Discuss.
I've made it out one day so far... and all that did was make me even sadder that I can't be skiing right now.
Hopefully the late start of the season won't affect the mountains too badly, and we can always hope for a longer season into spring. I mean, who doesn't like spring skiing? I just hope we get a lot of that white stuff soon. I need to get back on two planks before I kill some small children.
it's gotten to the point where i will look at the weather, twenty minutes later look at the weather to see that nothing has changed, then an hour later i do it again. i cant stop and its really beginning to be a problem. i seriously cant handle this warm wether at all, im literally losing sleep over it.
Meh, it has actually been pretty rock solid up north if you know how to get after it.
There were two mean early season storms and I got a good 4 days hiking and skiing top to bottom, plus a day at Killy. Last year was definitely worse and its looking like Stowe should be open Wednesday. Cool beans.
It has been another slow start overall. Killington which is my home mountain has been able to remain open, but expansion has been nearly non-existant.
Good news is the cold air is on its way. Cold this weekend which will allow for some expansion to finally occur and it is looking like arctic air pouring in around Turkey Day. Might be too little, too late for some resorts for Thanksgiving though.
Definite hurt to the resorts as it is the first holiday period. Although not a massive ski holiday, it is a period when they normally do see a spike in volume. Not being open, or being open on extremely limited terrain definitely puts a dent in their skier visits.

Yeah, I think that Killington has done a very good job; they managed to open super early and stay open which is amazing. The new walkway was a very good idea, and I think it's worth the walk when I get to ski all day.
As for how warm it's been- yes it's be ridiculously warm...I feel like normally we usually have some sort of snow by now but the ground isn't even frozen yet. It is supposed to cool off this week though, so I'm hoping that other resorts such as Sugarbush and Mt.Snow can continue blowing and hopefully open in time for the holiday.
I'm so stoked though...It's going to be a good winter.
