ok, so I have attended a couple different jib academy events over the past few years and of course, they have been sick. It is such a cool, fun way for kids to get their names out there, progress and learn new tricks, or even just hang with some pros. So salomon, props for what your doing so far.

However, there is one major thing I feel that needs changed, and i'm sure many of you NSers do, too. With things as big as all expenses-paid trips to mammoth at stake, participant voting is NOT the way to go. This definitely isn't an accurate representation of who really deserves it. For the most part, a local is going to win. A good percentage of participants are locals of that mountain, and if you know a ton of the skiers, you're in. It can be rigged so easily. I remember at one specific event, there were somewhere around 100 votes... only 60 kids were in it. Also, someone could get all their friends to come or even a bunch of people to vote for them, and automatically get at least a brand new pair of skis, let alone an amazing opportunity.

Something like this needs a better system, be it judging, coach voting, etc.. just something that gives those opportunities to the skier that truly deserves it. Salomon, I'm sure you can see where i'm coming from.

i partially agree. with such large stakes, participant voting is unfair. however, it does make it the laid back and chill format it is. if it was any other way, it would basically just be slopestyle format, and like everyother competition. its what makes the jib academy, the jib academy.

what they could do is keep things as far as splitting into groups, then participant voting on the best in the group to advance to the finals, which is then judged by the pros...

definnitly seen.. at the one i went to it was really close cuz some little whippersnappers(no autocorrect there awesome) voted for the one kid just because they saw him before and some kids went just to vote the best kid in thier crew.. sorry for any hate/shit storm
but yea i kinda agree the pros kno whose good and has potential where its also awesome kids have a say, so idk its whtever side you choose

seven springs finals 2 years ago, a kid in the finals was struggling to finish the rails and straight jumped all the jumps. but still, who fucking cares?

Maybe you just need more friends to vote you in... The one I went too was pretty fair, seeing as the beat skier won. An it's not about who had the beat trick it's about who has the most fun or somethings like that, who would benefit most from the trip

I think your not correct at all. The Salomon jib academy at my home mountain (Tremblant) was won by an out of towner from Toronto. Matt Willcox I'm pretty sure is the name, and there was lots of local kids who threw down and lots of locals that could have voted for them. Obviously when it comes down to it skiers are going to pick the best skier, who is the most deserving.

Matty slayyed it there!! Also i agree, its not like people are really going to give a a fuck about a pair of skis enough to rig the votes, unless your mountain is really lame, in that case it doesn't deserve a jib academy..

I agree. At the Holiday Valley event, my friend came in first, some other local came in second, and the guy who came in third should have won for sure, but didnt have any friends at the event.

look at NS, kids will do anything to get the upper hand. i completely disagree with the "kids will vote for the best skier." that is great that canada was able to see that, and unfortunate that the US does not in many cases.

I have not participated in one as A) I am not a solid park skier B) have always been too old.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your thoughts on this. I know the judging isn't perfect but it seems to be working and the pro athletes are always voting as well. We'll take all your comments into consideration and see if we can't improve on the system for this coming season.
We'll be launching another online contest here on NS and we should be officially announcing the stops soon.
This year we are going to be incorporating a girls Jib Academy for a spot to Mammoth! Plus we'll be doing rail jams and jump sessions for kids over 16 for some sweet prizes. We'll also be doing other contests for those of you savvy with video cameras, etc. Lots going on with the tour. Thanks for your support!
