Gotta pick an instrument

so recently i just quite soccer

sad thing is my dad won't let me just sit on my ass and ski all winter

he now says i have to take up an instrument

what should i learn to play?

If you could find a guitar player that enjoyed jamming in like C# major I would be amazed. Only keys you need are C, G, F, and D pretty much. Cross harp for a bunch more and you can fit those into minor keys too.

Bass is fun, and everybody wants a bassist because nobody plays bass. Even fewer people play drums.

If you want to get into producing piano is definitely the instrument to learn, but it will be way more painful to learn than anything else.

Sax is a dope instrument too, I'd personally go with that if I were you. Seems like a ton of fun.

get into hip hop production. you can learn the same basics as any other musical instrument plus even a little bit of composing of you want to make intricate beats. pl;us if he says thats not a real instrument get a midi keyboard and say its the same as a piano

Production doesn't teach you basics, and requires no intricacy at all. A midi keyboard is about as far as you can get from a piano with it still looking the same.

Pianist -> Producer is easy.

Producer -> Pianist is much, much harder.

im not saying production would be easy. but go ahead and try to produce a beat with out understanding basics of rhythm and scales and arrangement itll be shit. the only real reason i suggested it is because leaning an instrument on your own is hard and gets boring if you dont have other people to play with. if you have some kind of band to play though in i would defiantly recommend a traditional instrument

practical instrument - piano

awesome instrument - accordion. this may sound dumb but if you have piano experience it wont be hard to pick up and when you play it for people it will definitely impress

SAXOPHONE! Specifically tenor sax. I played for 10+ years, but I can't remember if it was hard to learn. It's wicked fun. Definitely will take a lot of work. You have to work on everything from your jaw control (you build up muscles in your mouth/lips), the way you breathe, etc. But it's so worth it. Such a great sounding instrument, and so fun at the same time. There's just SO much you can do with it.

But, sax's are super super expensive, especially a tenor. I would say if you want to go less expensive, definitely play piano. You could pick up a keyboard for decent money. Someone said before, there is nothing better than a guy sitting down and jamming on the piano and you had no idea he had that skill. It's really really attractive, hahaha.

Ive been playing guitar for about 6 years and its just the bees knees
by learning guitar you can almost automatically play bass
I am gonna start turntables too
it seems hella fun

turntables would be fun if you're into that sorta thing, its expensive to buy a mixer and serato and a laptop and all that junk

I really suggest picking up a guitar, if you learn guitar yo ucan also lay bass. then buy bongos so that people who dont know how to play instruments can come over and jam. It's good fun.

how could you neglect to mention b flat, its one of the most popular keys to jam in, especially with the styles of music a harmonica would be involved in. and nobody really jams in G. I'd suggest picking up the A, B flat, C, D, E and F. start with a B flat, and a C. both are really fun keys, but c sounds too eh to me. the b flat will give you a really bluesy sounding feel.

i enjoy occasionally learning some of my favorite songs on the piano through like youtube videos,, i can somewhat read music, but not to the point where I could play complex songs through it.

Ya accordian for sure. Pulling out the accordian and shredding=getting laid. Either that or bass. Nobody plays bass, it's fun and not difficult to get started.

Have you played anything before? Because it helps to know how to read music well before you start an instument.
Try guitar, I've been playing for almost 5 years and it's the bomb to just rock solos and stuff.

It's an awesome instrument and has such an amazing range of timbre's.

dude, i would get a guitar. dont be bummed you have to get an insturment. you should be happy your dad wants you to play an instrument. music is theurapeutic. If ive had a rough day nothing like sitting down and just playing some guitar or piano. i would definitely get whatever you think you will enjoy the most

Piano or trumpet. I play trumpet, have been for 5 years, im a sophomore and one of my friends is one of the best jazz trombone in the nation in highschool, and is a junior. He is talked to people at the manhattan school of music already, and will probably be going to julliard. He was 1st chair in jazz band of america and such, and he said i have a a spot in all state for sure.

Disregard all other posts. They are irrelevant. I promise you that you will have the most fun with this instrument. Buy one in Key of C by the way. Most common in songs and easiest to learn on.

Jamming on a harp is unparalleled. Plus, they're cheap as fuck compared to other instruments and you can take them skiing and shred on the lifts.
