I work for my dads company.  Hes an auctioneer.   I get to travel the world with the company so the perks make it worth even more.  At one point we have over a million flyer miles.  Between the two of us.

I was making the equivalent of 40k/year over the summer at an internship doing programming. Def not the highest but it was pretty good and I made a lot of money. Next step is getting a real job after school this year.

done, but it took me a while to pull that off. Engineer in EC ski town living 3 miles from lifts in company where most everybody rides and have "unofficial" but widely followed 6-10 rule (6" plus means nobody is there until at least 10)

You would love the cost of my rent then... $250 plus cost of utilities, which are roughly 50 a month.

We have the largest house in the neighborhood. we bought a foreclosed house (bank owned) that had been sitting vacant for over 2 years. When it was foreclosed on it was estimated at a 250,000 house. We picked it up for 64,000
Dropped some stack on it and now its estimated at 350,000, btw we have owned the house for less than 2 months. /claim

There's a lot more to it than just making sure it's where it's supposed to be. I'm not a clerk.

Decisions must be made throughout the course of business that involve substantial investments in different markets and products. These decisions can't be made without significant analysis of the potential financial implications of one vs. the other. Being one of the people that performs this analysis and decides which investment/project is the right one to make in order to achieve our overall objective, in my mind, constitutes playing with money.

Then there's also the tax side of things. Proper tax planning can literally save millions of dollars. It's a big fucking game. If you play your game right, you save money that can then be invested elsewhere. (Saving money is kind of a big deal right now given the current US economy)

Making money or saving money are both "playing" with money in my book. It may not be playing with money in the exact same sense as a trader, but it's still all a game to me. Call it what you will though. :)

that's about $288K/year - granted, pre-tax, but that's a huge salary nonetheless for somebody who looks only as old as you do in your profile pictures (no knocking the young age, obviously) - you're either lying or an idiot for turning it down!
You could do that for two years and buy a place in Utah or CO - first negotiate housing/living expenses into a non-binding contract for the Egypt work.

i hear you - but fortunately for me, both my father and grandfather are dentists. just like them, i don't need a residency, as i'm basically a god of dexterity, sensitivity, and acuity.

my dad actually planned it out so he'll retire when i graduate dental school, and then i take over the practice, where i work at now.

i'm just lucky though, i know that's not usually how it works out.
