the needles arent actually in the bombs, they are just buried around the real bomb so when the bomb expert tries to defuse it he gets pricked is how i read it

Urban legends. could happen, but no reported cases. Ballpits were done away with because they were almost definitely the filthiest play areas a child could ever ask for. Think of it like this....a mcdonalds opens in 1986 with a new ball pit. There i am, in 1993 playing in that ball pit. At which point did it get cleaned out?

That's a terrible way to fight a war. Clever, but awful. Bring back napalm and gas. They wanna fight dirty, let's give it to them.

ya it sounded confusing like thinking the bombs blow the heroin needles into people, but what the article was saying is that they bury it next to the bomb so that the people who disarm them will get pricked while they disarm them, not having it hit them with the explosion.

didn't read the article, and I'm not an expert, but wouldn't the heat from an explosion have a debilitating effect on the HIV virus? And I would think that if you're diffusing a bomb, you're probably paying close enough attention to not get pricked by a hypodermic needle.

from what i understood, is that the needles are hidden in the bomb so when you try to diffuse it, the needles prick your fingers.

sure, i understand the theory. I'm just saying that when you're diffusing a bomb that could contain multiple triggers, etc., you're probably paying pretty close attention to EVERYTHING, and working very "softly" as the slightest touch of the wrong component could set the fucker off. It would take a semi-decent amount of pressure to break the skin with a needle.

It just seems like a dumb idea that is more of a scare tactic than anything. Purely speculation though. I don't diffuse bombs for a living.

I wonder what the transmission rate is from being in contact with said needles. Even if it pierces the skin there still has to be a good chance the virus doesn't infect the individual. Anyone smart care to clarify how easy/hard it is to transmit blood born pathogens?

its a wonder people like you step out of the house. You never pump your own gas? What, because 1 person out of millions MAY have gotten pricked by a needle at a pump? And it's not even verified?

Seeing as ballpits are gone already, i'd say you'll have no problems there.

again, the hiv needles thing is an urban legend! It's not like 1 out of every 5 gas pumps is gonna kill you. You're millions of times more likely to die driving to the pump than you are of dying from hiv from the pump.
