HV40's are bomb, don't waste your money on a shitty tripod get a good one. I just bought a Manfrotto 701 head and the 190prob tripod and it's really sick. Anything you need to know about a HV40 is on this site basically, http://hv20.com/ .
I also got a Indislider I'd recommend getting one if you have the money. http://www.indisystem.com/products/indislider_mini
You for sure want a Uv filter to protect your lens.
Wide angle: lens the one that is recommended alot is a raynox 6600 with a 43 to 52mm set-up ring or something like that I think. http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/dcr/dcr6600pro/indexdcr6600eg.htm
If your shooting interviews get a mic this one is a good one http://usa.rodemic.com/microphone.php?product=VideoMic
Lens hoods are pretty good to have, you can find them on ebay. (43mm thread size)
Focus rings are helpful cause the HV40's is really small and a bitch to use good. This guy makes them but they've been out of stock for a long time. http://www.irvdesign.com/product/mfr/
As for tapes, 5 should last awhile, but make sure you always take out your tapes after your done filming cause they can get loose and unravel in your cam I lost 2 tapes because of it. So just like every night of whatever take out the tape.
The batterie on the HV40 is pretty good, I dont have 2, but having an extra batteries would be good its all up to you.
