I am going to university in the fall (probably Thompson RIvers in Kamloops) and im getting roommates i don't know. Just wondering what people experiences are with random roommates at university?

Either you:

Become friends with them

Become great room mates (eat together, maybe pregame a little, but not too much more)

Or you hate them. In this case, make sure you assert your dominance!

The first two outcomes are more than likely to happen, because who wants to hate their room mate.

Despite how different you may be, you'd be surprised how well you could get along with them. I mean, he is probably thinking the same thing as you, so I could see it working out for you.

I roomed with a kid from my high school i knew. And I had two random suite mates. Now next year, I never want to see my roommate ever again, I try avoiding him at all costs, and my two suite mates are my suite mates again next year, along with one of their friends (who lived down the hall) being my roommate next year.

Good choice going random, you meet more people, and hey, if you don't like him, switch after a semester, or even a month. Just say to your person in charge that there is conflicting interests.

I got assigned to a triple. One of my roomates was never there and was kind of a douche, and the other one I became pretty good friends with. We weren't friends outside of the room though, we had separate friend groups. It worked out great though because we never got sick of each other. We smoked together and maybe drank a little but we weren't biffles. The situation was really ideal.

I had a random dude from SF he was a way chill dude, we'd smoke occasionally, drink 40z together sometimes, but then he joined a frat and was there seriously 24/7  so it wasn't bad at all, i ended up pretty much having the room to myself. he'd come back maybe twice a week for some sleep and to do some work. but that was it.  having your own room like that is nice!!!!

Just hope to God you don't get a townie. My freshman roommate ended up being a kid who lived like 10 minutes from campus. I thought it would be cool, but he just rushed a frat and brought over his lame townie friends all the time.

Oh man.... roommates....

I went to a uni with a 30% asian population.

One of my roommates was from Japan and the other was from SD, but still super quiet and reserved and went home every weekend. The Japanese one made sushi almost every day in the dorm room. It was awful.

I changed rooms with in the month to sharing with 2 girls I had met that had a roommate moving out. Then my living experience was awesome and we all became really good friends.... Until this girl lied to my roommate and said that I was hitting on the guy she liked and blah blah blah.... Lies... Took her 2 months to find out the truth. Those 2 months were horrible. Then she gave me the most sincere apology ever and had me over for easter. Then we were friends again.

Second year I got random awesome roommates that I continued living with for another year.

4th year I got a random roommate that was super awesome. We left campus housing and and we moved into an apartment together with one of the girls i lived with the 2 years before.

I am no longer friends with any of them. Ha.

I've lived with 8 different people the last four years, only knew two of them beforehand. I never had a real bad experience. There are times when someone did something that I didn't like or seemed odd to me. But, the best way to go into it is to just be pretty relaxed and have and open mind.

Pretty much how my situation was too. Things with roomies is that things can go ether way pretty fast. Respect gets respect for the most part, you will learn that at school. good luck man

One of my suite mates put his hand on his balls then touched my pretzels.  I ate them.  He told me the next day.  So then I rubbed my ass all over his pillow.  He got a mild case of pink eye (well really its just irradiated, not really pink eye).  Next year we are roommates.

When I tried that college thing my roomate and I had absolutly nothing in common, never hung out with each other and seamed to have complete opposite scheduals. It was a great situation. He was never there when I didnt want anyone there and he never had a time when he needed the room to himself. It
was great.

Mine was terrible, he was a nice guy but we were complete opposites. it was an interesting experience. he had more mood swings and drama than a girl which pissed me off. i only lasted one semester in the dorms. i feel that everyone should experience dorm life for at least a little bit. go in with an open mind and everything will be fine.

I had a random roommate freshman year. He was from Chicago. It started out all cool and he seemed pretty chill. Then one weekend, I had just bought a case of beer and was chilling it with my fridge. My girlfriend's sister came into town and took my girlfriend and I out to a nice dinner.
When I got back it turns out my roommate was playing power hour and had given away all my beers to random people. I was so fucking pissed. I yelled at his ass for a bit then he left. I was lucky cause my girlfriends sister bought me another case as a gift.
HOWEVER, the next night (saturday) i was pregaming in a different room when my friend tells me my room is getting raided by some RA's. It turns out my friend had some of his friends over and helped themselves to MY unopened case AGAIN! TWO FUCKING NIGHTS IN A ROW WHEN I CLEARLY TOLD HIM NOT TO TOUCH MY BEER! He had no right to it. I straight up pushed my roomate over sending him onto his bed where i yelled at him for a good 4 minutes or so. From then on I controlled the room. He even ended up buying me 5 cases over the next month.

But yeah. Sorry for the long story.
Sparknotes: Bad roommate, stole my beer. If I had any advice in case you get a bad roommate, it is to make it clear that you control the room. Not him. That will make your year that much easier to live with a shitty roommate

My first year I had a horrible experience, My one roommate was crazy religious. Id wake up to bible qoutes on my door and the fridge. He would always be trying to tell me how im doing things wrong and wouldnt clean a single fucking thing. My other roommate was straight the most disgusting person ive ever met. He honestly smelled like rotting meat it was horrible, some days i would come out of my room and couldnt even be in the common room because his room smelled so bad. Also for some reason he NEVER flushed the toilet, or cleaned anything either.. But i made alot of good friends in the dorms outside my room.

My one of my friends, mike had a random room mate who failed to mention he was gay and mike waked in on him and one of his partners. They were never the same again

My room mate however turned out to be a close friend of mine and we still chill
