yeah i agree.

But, back to the subject, Morewood bikes, are definetly sick, just a little expensive to maintain for me, but my friend had one, i rode it a few times liked it alot, and he loved it,
if you have the money, i say go for it man

Just out of curiosity, how much so some of these super hardcore downhill fully's run? how crazy does it get? im from the midwest, so the riding we have around here is nothing in comparison and because of that the bikes aren't all that cool either (for the most part)

between $4000 and $6000 for an Izimu depending on the build kit i believe.

buuutt if your buying an izumu you should be grabbing a makulu instead
that being said, morewoods are ridic expensive. Makulu frameset with a BOS Stoy rear shock is upwards of 3500 canadian retail i believe

Wow, that's a lot of money for a bike. Another general question for you guys then, I'm assuming the frames are ridiculously light- how light & that's where the majority of the cost comes in? what kind of travel do you guys run in your front & rear (avg) suspension?

they are pretty light compared to past dh frames
currently im on a trek session 88, not sure the frame only weight but the bike is at 37lbs, and is not build up extremely light. great bike by the way
as for travel, 8 inches in both front and rear is pretty standard

Purple was pretty much dead on.
38-45lbs is a fairly average DH bike.
suspension set up are typically 8" for both, but there are a decent amount of bikes that run 7" and some even go to 9".

geometry feels real smooth
The durability, is good, my friend cracked his head tube, but he also beat the shit out of it, so thats not saying alot, im pretty sure theyre durable.and can withstand some good shit

Feels good to see some MTBer in here.

Morewood geometry is one of the best race geometry out there. Even if it's a single pivot, they found a way to NOT make it feel like one. 11 000$ is not too crazy if you don't work in a bikeshop and pay MSRP for everything. I'm currently waiting on my new frame. Can't FREAKIN wait to get it. Marin Quad DH.

My friend just bought a DeVinci, and shit is so sick. Nice slack geometry, good head angle for steeps, and really nice rider feedback from the rear end.


The Izimu is my dream bike. I haven't ridden it, but from what I've heard, it's incredibly playful, without being twitchy, and is super stable in the corners and at high speed.

same, one of my others friends picked up a brand new Turner DHR, and has bought 4 different chain devices, and 2 different mechs trying to cut grams off it.

He also bought brand new, TF-tuned 40 RC2s, rode them once, decided they were too heavy, then sold them for a fraction of the price he paid for them, to get Boxxers.

Morewoods are pretty solid bikes. I dont know about any specifically, but I know people who have them and like them quite a bit.

Here is a small read about the morewood. Sicklines knows their shit.
But the bike won't feel all that great with a single crown, it's a downhill bike, not a freeride bike.

If you're buying a downhill bike, make it a downhill bike. That means dual crown. The extra inch of travel will do you wonders- if you want to build an awesome bike that weighs nothing... well, my buddy put over 6,000 into his Santa Cruz V10. Carbon linkage, Fox 40, RaceFace Atlas parts, first 1-piece top crown/stem component in the US, Avid Elixir CRs, DT Swiss rims and spokes laced [insert lol here] to Hope Pro II hubs...

It weighs 34.8 lbs. That is .2 lbs less than my 5 inch travel all mountain bike.... [angry!]

It rides amazingly, but you'll still be able to build a great ride for a lot cheaper.

For a less expensive bike that can suit you for freeride and downhill depending on your fork, check out the Rocky Mountain Flatline. The rear travel is adjustable, and with it changes the geometry, so you will be set regardless whether you want to go full-on downhill, or just single-crown freeride.

Morewood makes awesome bikes, but there's lots to maintain.

I've heard nothing but good about Devinci's bikes, and they look damn sexy.

Definitely expand your choices from just two companies- there are very many bikes to choose from.

And remember: You aren't choosing a bike you're choosing a frame and a bunch of parts. And it is easier (and cheaper) to change a few parts than it is to change out a frame.

Don't know to to much about the Morewood's, other then that they look super sick, the geometry looks spot on and all in all a very well thought out bike.

I personally have a Devinci Wilson, and it is such a sick bike. Canadian designed and built, can't get much better then that, but it does. perfect geometry, and if you doin't like it, change it, as simple as changing one bolt, same with the wheelbase. Very tight feel, handles super well and is a fun bike to ride. Not only that but they are super strong and light, we're talking under ten pounds for frame plus air shock. Mine with the vivid would be right around ten pounds for the frame. The complete bike weighs about 38 pounds, and it is pretty much a bombproof as it gets. Full saint build, rock shox boxxer and vivid, mavic deemax's (which for a race wheelset are stupid strong). Now you might think That I'm a tiny guy? no I'm a 220 pound downhill racer who rides his bikes hard. I literally broke the stem on my downhill bike in one race as a testament to that. So with all that nbeing said, the wilson is an amazing bike, can be built up fairly light, and strong as well. and is super playful. It handles most terrain excedingly well. For really tight courses a bit tighter geometry wouldn't be bad, but with the adjustments the wilson coped. It loves steep, flat out runs, it loves to go fast.

Morewoods are sick bikes. It is a single pivet design though so get everything that goes along with that. I have a demo 7 and it's absolutely amazing. The rear end is super stiff. The dhx 5 with a totem solo air in the front eat up absolutely everything. Of the bikes on your list I would lean towards the SX Trail. That's what I had before the demo and it was an absolutely amazing bike. If you're thinking about more of a "slopestyle" shorter travel bike definitely check out the Intense Slopestyle 2. If they weren't so low that's what I would have.
As far as forks, in my opinion, if you're not racing downhill dual crown forks are a thing of the past. A totem would fit your needs perfectly and if you have the scrilla the new 180mil fox should be an amazing fork.

^^ All sick bikes, but if I had one thing to say it would be don't get the Iron Horse. It's a great bike, but now that Iron Horse is out of business (and therefore no longer in existence) it would be a challenge at best to secure replacement parts, should you need them, and you can forget about manufacturer warrantee.

Sorry for assuming you didn't quite know what you were talking about, I'd rather assume you don't and help you out than assume you do and indirectly be responsible for something unfortunate, i.e. trying to fit a Euro BB into a downhill frame. Stranger things have happened before.

SX trail would be a great option. Especially if you plan on pedaling it at all. What kind of trails would you be riding? Really rough rocky downhill trails or smooth and buffed out with lots of jumps and such?

i ride leavenworth and 38 the most. whistler a few times and some local trails. an sx would certainly be plenty of bike for those trails. 

do any of you know what kind of stuff will be at stevens? lots of big chunks of rock like whistler or... sandy and dry like leavenworth?
