Quiet. Athletic. Friendly. Devoted. Calculated. Gideon didn't wear the newest Oakely shit nor stress about buying new skis everytime they got a ding in the base, Gideon skied to ski...image meant nothing...i mean he rocked the smith goggles with the built in fan to keep his glasses from fogging for donahue's sake. He was into the sport for the fun of it, for the love of it; somethig that many of us forget day after day. The only time he ever gave me shit was because I didn't feel like skiing because it was cloudy or the conditions might be subpar. He didn't give a fuck, he just wanted to get out and ride. Probably the chillest cat I have ever spent time with, caught up in no hustle whatsoever. I could be here all night typing shit about him, but that doesn't really matter. I know how I feel, and where he is now I know he knows how i feel and thats what is important. Just everyone take a step back, halt the shit talking and think. Shit happens, some stuff you can prepare for while other stuff you cannot. Just be smart in whatever you do...think things through. Is it worth the risk? Not to scare anyone from trying a new trick or even driving to the grocery store. Just be aware. Nobody needs to die, because when one person passes on it kills everyone that they have touched, be it their brother, lover or even just some cat they knew from school. Everyone pour some out for my dog Gideon, if only we could all be a little more like him.

there arent really any words to describe how this article made me feel. I didnt know the guy at all, and somehow through the article, and through your writing, it made me feel sort of connected to who he was. It seems he has touched a lot of people. Let that live on in his memory, not the sadness of his loss, the joy, and experiences he gave you. This death is a real wake up call for me i guess. That at any moment, anything, no matter who you are can happen to you. The life you live has nothing to with the way you die, but if you live spiritually, and right, you can control where you will end up. His memories and life will live on in you, and in his other friends. RIP, even though i never met you, it seems your death has touched my life a little. Again....i say RIP

Hey all this is gideons brother Evan. I'm 13 and i turn 14 in about a week. I remember coming back from tahoe a month ago that me and gideon were going to go to hood in the summer and go skiing during a break in my bike racing schedule. I guess i'll never know what it was going to be like with me and my brother up summer skiing. I just hope to get to be a better freestyler and learning from all the local guys like kunz and whoever rocks the hizzy at snoqualmie. Thanks to everyone whos sent there apologies in this thread. For those washington rats there will be a memorial at western washington university on may 6. I'll follow up with more info through kunz. Again my families thanks go out to all those who care and I'm just ready to get on with my life with gideon in memory.

RIP Gideon I know your riding somewhere still.

I remeber riding up to baker with gideon driving a WWU van and we only had like 5 people in a 15 person van and we asked him what Westerns policy was on picking up hitch-hikers and his response was if they have a smile and their face and a board or skis in their hands they are welcome to ride. 2 minutes later we were picking up a couple snowboarders at a freeway on ramp. Gideon was a great guy who will be missed
