Whats the point of helmets?

how do they work? theyre still hard on the inside so when you smash your head wont it just hit and equally hard surface and spill your brains everywhere? i guess it could act as some sort of bowl to contain the mess, but other than that it seems dumb.

i usually just wear a hat because it is softer than a helmet and will do more good.

As a consequence of my piss weak rail skills, I've come A LOT closer to seriously messing myself up on rails than on kickers. Slipping and falling head first onto a thin steel bar is obviously extremely dangerous, and for me personally, a lot easier to do than falling on my head off a kicker.

Do i wear a helmet when i bicycle to school? No. Why? Cause it looks retarded. Thats the same on skis. All the jibbers (twintip skiers) are wearing helmets and it looks fucking stupid. A 20 year old looks like hes 9 years old. Im not planning to totally wipeout so im not wearing it. I stomp instead.  Think its ok wearing helmet when its icy hard in the landings but otherwise just ski and dont make a fool of yourself wearing a helmet.

Sorry, I really don't mean to troll and by replying to this I am hence perpetuating the situation (unfortunately). but i just thought that the OP saying that helmets don't help in a fall because they are hard on the inside a bit ludicrous, but that is just my opinion.

although this is another successful troll, there are people that seriously think like this.  Specificly a random 50 year old that I rode up the lift with that told me a young girl crashed head first into his 70 yr old friend skiing, breaking his hip because of her hard helmet.  Proceeds to tell me people don't need helmets unless they're racing, competing etc.

Or there smart. The point of a helmet is to spread out the force of the hit so the helmet breaks not your skull. I think you should keep with the no helmet thing so you die we all laugh at you and use your story to show to other autistic kids like you. Dumbass

much more likely to hurt yourself= more dangerous.

Not that I am saying it is a bad idea to wear a helmet on a backyard rail. It's just that I would more likely be wearing one if I was hitting a 50 foot booter. I mean walking to your car after skiing can be just as dangerous as hitting a backyard rail depending on the circumstances. I'm not wearing a helmet in the parking lot.

I have a feeling that you have already hit your head and lost a little more than just a few brain cells. Therefore you don't understand the reasoning behind wearing a helmet, because your brain is a few cells shy of understanding how a helmet works.
