GoPro mount? for kayaking?

Hey, i'm looking at getting a GoPro, like everyone else, and other than skiing i plan on using it for kayaking.
The impacts in kayaking are pretty big, and the water is very strong.
I'm sure my friends dont want to drill holes in their boats, so do you think any of the mounts GoPro sells are strong enough?

check out that surfboard mount. i am pretty cure the impact from fallin on a wave is pretty big too so it should hold up. i am not familiar with go pro mounts though

The mounts are extremely strong. However, two weekends ago I was skiing through my favorite pow area, and there's a packed powder/groomed cat track back to the lifts. Well, I didn't see the cat track slammed into it going from a steep part at about 25mph and my chin when straight into my knee, the camera ripped straight off my helmet and my jaw hurt pretty bad for the rest of the day and the day after. I did put the mount on the night before, but if you put the mount on a few days prior to use, you should be set, I put it on far too late.

As long as you're smart enough to keep the camera attached to a leash as well as the mount, you'll be fine whatever happens.

could you rig up the bike handlebar mount to your kayak somehow? like if the kayak has a solid handle on it or something? there's always the nylon webbing helmet mount. if your helmet has vents in the top, they would work. you might be able to strap it onto somewhere on the kayak too.

This is a very good idea. Hooking up a leash to the gopro case seems like a straight forward task. Just takes some ingenuity.

why not just put it on your helmet? seems to me if you mount the gopro on the boat itself the shots are going to be splash after splash...

i think it all depends where your kayaking.  if your just playing in a hole or wave i bet it will hold up quite well.  but if your doing big creeks and end up hitting it with a rock or messing up the line of a waterfall and end up going face first into the water below the impact of the water could probably hit it off.

2 month bump or so, but to answer your question with my opinion i think it would be best to..
get the surf mount, mount it to your kayak. the surf mount not only mounts the gopro, but it also includes a string attachment in case the mount fails. to add even more safety, i would go as far as to thread my own safety string through the mount and attach it elsewhere, just so if it does fall off, you have a safety line.

i plan on cliff jumping this week with mine, and im just going to thread a string through where it mounts to gopro mounts, and tie that around my wrist, then take a small ring from a pool noodle and thread that through there to. so if it comes off my wrist, it floats.
