Have your parents ever done this to you?

ok, so i went skiing yesterday, and i was hitting the first Xl jump which was 45 feet. the first time i hit i cased a bit but it didnt hurt. then i go to hit it again and i ditched too much speed and i landed 5 feet from the landing. and i bruised my heel pretty bad (pretty bad as in i have to hop every where on one foot) when i got home my parents were watching tv  and they asked what happend so i told them. and they banned me from skiing in the park. and they said since we had a 1 hour talk about how the park isnt safe and how u can get hurt easily. now i have to ski with them from now on or not ski at all. have your parents ever done this to you? and which one would you chose? not skiing or ski with ur parents

Agreed 10x.

Also, it wasn't until I turned 18 or 19 that I fully appreciated everything my parents had done for me. They saved me so much trouble.

Parents have a natural protective instinct over their offspring. Put yourself in their shoes. If you knew someone you loved put themselves in danger day in, day out, for the entire winter you'd probably have something to say to them.

Parents don't see the case or overshoot that you probably didn't really mind, and laughed about with your friends; all they see is their child, injured, which is abhorrent to them.

Cut them some slack, they protect you because they love you.

My parents haven't done that but they have banned me from skiing for a weekend because i was 10 minutes late home from a friends house

This really sucks to be you. I have come home limping and with broken bones from skiing before and my pop's tells me that life, get up and try it again. My mom on the other hand is a little more protective 'maybe you shouldnt try that again or go on a different trail' my response: 'HAHA... NO'.... Your parents can only control you so much... not trying to sound like Dr. Phil here but if they are being that strict sit them down and ask them if they want to to live a boring plain life without taking chances and living in their basement playing video games and watching porn the rest of your life with no hope....

my friend got her 3rd concussion this year last weekend at the hill but she's afraid to tell her parents because they threatened to take her pass if she got another blow to the head. this is proof that overprotection can be dangerous.

To OP: The fact that you have as many posts as me and I have been on ns 2 years longer than you tells me that mabey if you spent less time on this site and more time skiing you would be better and wouldn't get hurt.

This really sucks and i feel for you bro this is what you do.



Sit down with your parents and have a talk without shouting or arguing with them about how you will try to be more careful and tell them that people don't get hurt that often, also watch a park safety video (there easy to find"google") and tell them that this video has taught you to be safer and that getting hurt was a learning experience for you, also try to show that your not hurt that much so it looks like your getting better and that you really didn't get that hurt and also mention that to live is taking a risk in everything that you do and that you have to take risks to get better (try to say this in a nice way)

through this whole conversation keep your cool and stay calm

Its called  when you grow up they wont give a shit, you are only 14, then again american health care is shit if thats where you live.. Just tell him the biggest risk you take all day is driving there, its true.

this will no happen to be me because my dad loves skiing too
and he is riding sometimes my seth pistol and he said that
powder skis are awesome

and he watched at me when i hit my biggest kicker i think it was about 75 feet!!
he said also the 7 are really cool

why would you tell your parents what happened?

the only times my parents ever knew about me getting hurt was when they were called by the hospital! now i tell them because there's nothing they can do about it.

Mountain biking has sent me to the hospital so many times and my parents still support that. And then the one time I end up in the hospital because of skiing, they say I shouldn't hit jumps anymore because they are just big piles of snow and the physics are off. So I agree with them and say that I'll just stick to rails. But then they say that if I'm gonna push my luck I just shouldn't ski.


Went the whole summer trying to sell all my gear and then they tell me the other day that I can ski. Thankfully I never got around to selling anything.
