Ski Bumming: Living Cheap Suggestions

Biggest expense that I need to cut down on is food. Any suggestions for eating cheap but still remaining alive? I will need to be on a cheap diet for 5 months, so kraft dinner and ramen will not cut it.

so far I am thinking eggs are cheap and healthy, also broccoli can get me my greens for aobut a buck a day. Already drinking coffee black.

hm... try to get those coupons... someone posted a thread on it earlier this month. Lady got like a cart full of groceries for like .75 cents or something it was crazy.

Buy those bags of frozen chicken breasts, you can get like 12 breasts for $4 and bake them in the oven and boom, dinner for about 6 days.

git college campuses near by? i know the way the caf is here yu could just get a student to swipe u in, i know i would

and then we just get huge trays of food and put them in backpacks and peace. free bagels, english muffins, sandwiches, really anything u want

man I know chicken is super cheap but I am alergic. Fish is healthy but so damn expensive, so right now meat is coming from red meat which isn't the best and more expernsive.

rice and beans, rice and beans, cheap as fuck and have all of your needed amino acids and shit like that.
also, quesadillas with just cheese, refried beans and some veggies are cheap as hell and delicious. Potatoes are pretty cheap too, and you can just microwave them and put some butter on, always acts as a great way to make sure you get full off of what would have been a tiny ass meal.
Making stuff from scratch, especially things like pizza, makes it pretty cheap. Other than that, just always be looking for coupons.

go to a cafetria, get a whole bunch of ketchup, get a bowl, put hot water in stir it up and you have some tomato/kethup soup!

Become a "Freegon" and spend no money on food, and all you money on shelter, booze, and what ever else you need. Then again I wouldn't be so keen eating out of the trash, but hell I have seen people on tv score mad food thats not rotten and perfectly good.

Whenever money is tight i go out and spend $10 on like 5 packs of those ramen cups. It never gets old and still tastes awesome. Since your allergic to chicken just get beef

Instead of drinking coffee black, STOP drinking coffee.

and TOFU. SOOOO cheap, and soooo good for you.

like said above, bananas are pretty cheap. and pasta. grilled chese.  find a friend with a sam's club or costco membership and hit that up, you can get HUGE boxes of cereal for like 4 bucks, and milk is generally cheaper at those places too. and they have, no joke, the biggest bags of tortilla chips i have ever seen for sooo cheap, 5 bucks maybe. pair that up with the huge things of salsa and your set for a little while.

Peanut butter and jelly, or Fluff

Nutella, spread cheese, peperjack cheese. Basically anything you can spread on bread or crackers

Eat off brand cereal, very cheap and pretty good.

also, canned soup or raviolis are awesome

that or get a job washing dishes and eat all the leftover food you would otherwise throw away :D

buy cheap whiskey or Rum, a bum necessity. If you smoke just buy Senecas from the reservation. $2 a pack, carton is cheap too

steal clothes from the laundromat

collect cans, get a paper route and collect cans as you deliver papers

Make shit yourself seriously a lot cheaper. Go buy a big bag of rice and pasta, shit keeps for ages and if you dont give a shit you can eat it with anything. Buy frozen veg in big bulk bags, again keeps for ages and is pretty easy. Also buy tins of tuna on offer.

If you can get a steamer, i know it will cost you a bit but you can cook loads of shit in there and its way healthier. Just get a load of frozen veg and a tin of tuna mix up with some mayo add some pepper and you a pretty balanced meal, if you put in a shit load of veg this will fill you up for ages and will make you healthier and you still getting protein from the fish.

Same goes for potatoes just buy big bags of them and cook shit for youself. Yeah you have to eat shit sometimes 3 nights in a row or w/e but if you make a fuck load then you can reheat or eat it cold up the mountain the next day or for other meals etc.

Also if your friends are lazy make the food and get them to chip in which means you don't have to eat the same stuff all the time.

good cheap recipe.

1. rice
2. black beans
3. shredded cheese
4. salsa
5. sour cream

mix that into a bowl or a tortilla extremely healthy. not too expensive and pretty damn good.

I mentioned this in another thread, for free drinks steal a cup from your friends or something, to a chik-fil-a or whatever and get free refills. Free internet so you don't have to pay, live near someone with internet get a huge range internet USB plug in. That frees up a lot of money. For food, 1 dollar hotdogs at places like speedway. If they aren't looking, stuff like 4 hotdogs into one bun and steal buns in your coat pockets. Whenever you go to the store, especially costco or sams club, go on sundays / saturdays near lunch time. They have all the snacks out. Eat up. Eat grapes out of the bag in the store. You're allowed to have up to a fourth of the whole bag. Also, if you aren't above completely disrespecting yourself and seeing some of the nastiest shit ever, dumpster dive stores. I used to do this at trader joes, fucking amazing. You can get all of the shit you'll ever need. Panera / dunkin donuts / any bread place at night. Go in 20 mins after they close, just ask if you can have the free bagels / donuts most of the time they'll say yes. If not, wait an hour and dumpster dive that shit. Have a great season :D

get yourself a plate, throw on some of the lettuce and tomato, then mix together some ketchup and mayo for russian dressing. bam, free salad

In our house we bought a sams club card and we buy bulk pork loins, chicken, and pretty much anything else we eat all throw down for it and eat like kings for a two weeks for about 25 dollars. Salt Lake is also pretty cheap living so it makes it easier.
