Video Editing Software

Ok so i got a new Hitachi Video Camera and the video format is (.vob) does any one have videos in this format and if you do what software do you use..?

is it a dvd camcoreder? .vob is usually a dvd video container

i believe .vob is a proprietary version based on mpeg-2? shouldn't be too much of an issue, but it may add extra steps that are time consuming. download handbrake for free and you can convert the file to use in fcp or another editor.

I tryed prism and it converted the video to .avi but when i import it into windows movie maker its just the sound from the video???
