Colleges in Utah

So next summer I'm probably going out to Utah to look at colleges with some friends. Getting into a school won't be the problem, I have great grades and plenty of extra curriculars. What are some good colleges close to a well rounded resort. I don't know Utah very well and i want to ski a resort that has good parks and plenty of backcountry and powder skiing. So feel free to shoot me some suggestion. Thanks.

i live in utah. for colleges id go with the U of U. its a mile from downtown and is so sick. for resorts id either go with park city and the canyons. they both have sick parks the pows pretty sick. if you wanna ski the best pow, go with alta or snowbird

yeah, but its $3,400. it lets you ski all 13 of the resorts

if you want a smaller school Westminster college is pretty sick. Little longer to downtown, but still super close and closer to the mountains.

Yah both look real sick. I think i may move out to utah once i turn 18 so i don't have to pay the rediculous out of state tuition. Or i may just wait for the spring semester, either would be sick. Can't wait to get off the EC. U of U looks pretty sweet too. Still not sure what i want to go for, possibly engineering or architecture.

as if proximity to downtown is really an issue in the slightest? salt lakes a giant strip mall....

PC's pass is $375 this year if you're a student and sign up for one of the ski clubs on campus. 
Canyons is like $385 or something.
The passes are reasonable, and you'll get at least 3 or 4 days a week in I bet. 
U of U is the illest.

K+ for all. U of U is sounding like the place to be. Thats sick that you get discounts for being in clubs. I was lookikng at their website and tuition isn't looking bad either. I'd be real stoked if i could get in state tuition cause that is such a good price.

i know slc is a bit spready out, but downtown still has tons of attracting factors for it. living up on the benches over in millcreek it frequently happens that i wish i was a bit closer to downtown...its a doozy of a bikeride back after drinking in those neck of the woods. westminster is pimp but its also a private school which means the tuition will be quite a bit higher. an option you could check into is going to salt lake community college and gettings all youre prereqs out of the way then transferring to the u. living here for just a few months wont get you instate tuition. you either need to be here for 2 years or have 60 credits under your belt.

yo yo yo. i'm a senior right now and u of u is one of my main choices for school next year. when i went and visited the campus i was talking to a student there and he said that he went his first year, paid out of state (which is pretty reasonable, cheaper than a UC would be for me and i'm in california.) after a year of living there and going to the U he was able to go through the process of establishing residency, so the next 3 years he is paying in-state which is ridiculously cheap.

my one friend is in Ogden... at Weber State Univ. 

it may be worth your time to look into...dont really know much about it though except its super close to Snowbasin (host of the Dew Tour stop in Utah) and Powder Mtn.

I go to the U and it's pretty dope.. city is accessible by train, and various mountains have buses that leave right from the school. Not to mention that instate is 5k.

I'm paying out of state this year but im gonna find a place this summer, pay rent but go back home for a couple months so I can get instate.

If you live in utah for 12 consecutive months while in school (dont have to go to school in the summer) you can get instate, i did it, its legit

yea yo, i've been at westminster for a year and if your into the whole small liberal arts school, parties, lots and lots of skiing this is where its at.  The U seems sick from the time i've spent up there, but too big for me.

back in high school i got a scholarship from U of U that waved out of state tuition (i'm from michigan). i wanted to go real bad to ski, but i chose to stay in the midwest and get the college education that i really wanted. i highly recommend picking a college based on the major you want, and not solely on skiing. but if you can get both then you'd be insane not to.

I was told that just having an apartment over the summer isn't enough anymore, due to the fact that people just buy a place, then go home and get in state tuition. They said I either need to go to summer semester, or get a job here over the summer to prove my residence.

Yeah, job is needed (pay stub) plus bank account, license, proof of voter registration etc

U of U is a highly acclaimed school and offers a ton of majors so i doubt that would be a huge problem for most people.

I go to weber state and its not to bad its like 30 minutes from powder mountain and like 20 minutes from snowbasin definitly pick this school its got so many urbans on campus

Well that would defeat the definition of getting residency, now wouldn't it? It's not really cheapable, but you get instate because you become a resident and going home means youre not a resident.

Your best bets are Dixie State and Westminster. Dixie State is the closest overall to all the resorts. But Westminster has had a lot of prestige ever since US News and World Report named it "Most Expensive Education That Constantly Elicits The Question, 'Is That A Community College?'"

westminster sends me so much stuff, all my friends get tons of mail from them too, they must waste so much money on postage.. they also call my house all the time..even though i have asked them to stop, and told them i'm not transferring there.  But seriously go to westmin or the U of U.. not dixie haha.. nowhere near any resorts

salt lake in the summer is awesome, it wouldn't be such a bad place to have to hang out for a few months to establish residency.

tons of concerts and outdoor events, super rad climbing/biking/hiking all over the place, it really is a lot of fun.

instate - $2500 for 12 credit hrs per semester
so 5g's a year

out of state - $7600 for 12 credit hrs per semester
so 15g's a year

wait so 2.8 and an 18 is all you need? i have a 3.9 (our school is on a 5.0 scale tho) and i'll get prob anywhere from 24-26 so I should get in? Also does anyone know about the writing program at the U. and if it is easy to get a job working in the ski industry out there? Thanks, im a Jr. in high school btw
