Good.  The government has no right to tell a person what he or she can do to their own bodies.  If somebody want to kill themselves with drugs, that should be their right.  The correct method to approaching the drug problem is education and regulation, not criminalization.

Have they decriminalized transport and sale or just personal use?

On some levels I approve, but look at all the innocent people getting hurt or killed thanks to the most addicting and dangerous drugs, like crack and heroin. The junkies that have thrown their life away will do pretty much anything for a hit: threaten, rob, kil etc. These are pretty tough questions that are on the hairline of morality and justice. I just never wanna see heroin or crack legalized.

Did you read the article?? It clearly states that it is only small amounts for personal posession. 2 or 3 joints or 3 or 4 lines. It is still illegal to sell or deal in any way. Basically it clarifies in law what was already happening anyway - now officers won't be able to bribe people caught with small amounts of drugs (they will still find a way, I'm sure haha)

The idea is that if heroin and crack were legalized there wouldn't be as much crime involved with the drugs because since the government or corporations or whoever would sell the drugs, the illegal drug business would collapse and the violence and everything associated with it would be curbed.  And as for the personal safety of the junkies.....
a) Fuck em, its their own stupid fault
b) Addiction is a health issue, not a criminal issue.  The drug being illegal only makes it harder for them.

And no, I didn't read the article, I was too lazy, thats why I asked.

i think you missed the point of his post. those junkies will do anything to get another hit of their said drug. that means if they want another hit and don't have any money since theyre junkies and don't have jobs they will have to steal or some other means of getting another hit. like killing people and such.

but i think that this will only increase the sales and illegal trafficing or drugs. when markets expand the merchants also expand. isnt that what they are trying to stop?

Glad someone read the article. So much misinformation flying around in this thread.

And for anyone wondering how this is going to turn out, just check out stats on Portugal. They did it a few years ago and it turned out beautifully. Usage actually decreased, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases dropped, and the country saved a butt load of money not arresting individuals only looking to get high.

Now with all the extra money saved from the decrease in disease treatment and arrests they can focus their attention on rehabilitation and prevention programs.

Yeah well Portugal is the only model we have to go by. And it's a damn good one by the way. I agree Mexico might not be the best candidate for this experiment but if other countries hopped on the band-wagon things could really change the political atmosphere around drugs.

Maybe if you look at it on a 5th grade level, but in reality people on LSD throwing cinder blocks off highway overpasses and killing a father driving his family home just because that drugged up moron thought he was flying or something.......that would be bad.

Oh, that's how my grandfather was killed so I guess I'm biased.  My Mom has been emotionally messed up since she was in the car.  I just always feel helpless, like what can I even tell her to make it better?  Could you imagine just driving along with the family and that happening?

But there is a huge bias against tobacco. We just banned flavored cigs in america, and before that banned candy cigs because they appeal to kids, but candy and fruit flavored alcohol doesnt appeal at all I guess. We also banned big tobacco from advertising almost every where possible, but booze is everywhere

Actually it does snow there, the volcano outside out Mexico city gets regular snow and there is a snow cat left over from the 60's where some ambitious Mexicans drove up it and skied down it. no joke. Mexico City is around 8,000 feet above sea level. but it is not nearly as consistent or organized as an actual resort, in fact no organization at all.

agreed.  i did LSD, did NOT feel like i was flying.  i just went out into the woods, watched rabbits, squirrels and shit, then started freaking out a little when said rabbits started having sex in the bushes.  i never got the impulse to throw shit off a bridge.  like this kid said, do research.

haven't read entire thread but i agree that it should be decriminalized. people should be able to do what they want, but to an extent. junkies are not always bad people but there are some who will kill for their drugs. i would hate to see a family ripped apart or a child growing up in a poisoned environment filled with drugs and violence. on my standpoint, marijuana should be decriminalized at the least (i guess just because i want that) but other drugs i have no experience with so therefore i cannot make a factual opinion. i think this is a bit much though, i mean, EVERY DRUG? seems extreme and sounds crazy because drugs are so frowned upon in society. curious to see how this plays out
