hey, my brother just changed apartments and im trying to get his router to work. the videotron guy showed up today and set up the internet and everything. if i plug myself directly to the modem, like im doing now, then i get internet perfectly. but if i try to connect through the router it says "local only". i even tried plugging my computer to the router and it doesnt work either.
so the guy who came said something about configuring the router so i tried typing http://192.168.0.1/ into my browser but it doesnt work. i really need help. oh and its a d-link

the question was kinda vague but this should help
Try contacting the internet provider. I remeber that some companies charge extra fees for having a router.
I can do that on a horse!
did you enter the 192.168..... thing while you were plugged in>? and do you have a modem also?

Connect the ethernet cord directly to the internet port in the modem, then try accessing the default i.p. for your router (192.168...W/E it is) then set it up. if that works, save your settings, and then connect your LAN cords etc. then access the router setup page again and configure a wireless network. I'm not sure if that will work because I have a linksys, but thats how I ususally do it.
do you have the modem plugged into the WAN socket of the router?
look at the back of the router for it's local ip address. you don't need to enter the http:// part of it.
username and pw is usually admin / admin unless it's been changed. if you cant remember you can reset the router by holding the reset button for about 15 sec.
the main setting you'll want to check when you get into the admin panel is the ip settings. you'll probably want to make sure it's set to DCHP
