Moguls kick it. I learned to ski in moguls practically. My hill has exactly one black and it's all steep moguls. Awesome run.

I usually steer clear of moguls, but I want to learn because they are the last part of midwest ski hills that still scare me. Anyone got any tips?

yah!! well, one thing... keep your stance really narrow, use the troughs for speed control when you're learning, be agressive and trust yourself.. then again, its kinda hard to give suggestions if i've never seen you ski so i duno what you ski bumps like, but yah, i hope that helps.

its nice to see so many of you appreciate moguls!

I personally think moguls are the worst part of skiing. Well can I ski them? Havent tried to ski moguls the way they are suppose to for years, so not really. I try to find a line through them so that you can do really big turns and ollie the ones in the way. Moguls tend to be made by people who cant ski pow well.

Moguls have seemed really easy from the first day I started freeskiing seriously. I used to consider them a challenge, now, they're just a workout, and a lot of fun. I doubt I could race them, but you don't have to tear down them to enjoy them. I think I like the sketchy, unmaintained, non-streamlined ones the best, it's always something different.

moguls used to be my favorite thing to do before i got into freestyle. its really sucks when you wipe out though, especially goin pretty fast

moguls are extremely intense and are a great workout. They definitely take more stamina than any other part of skiing. The best way to go about them is to just bounce up and down in the troughs, taking the impact with your knees, and your upper body not moving that much.

Yea, i can't do moguls, so when i go into them, i just go off them like a jump, not around them. it's fun, but does hell on ur legs after a while. I wanna try like doin 1s on them like real fast like 1, switch1 ,1, 3. that would be insane

Skiing moguls is probably one of my favorite things to do, it keeps things interesting for me. If you are trying to learn how to ski them, pick an easy line, speed check at the top of it by absorbing it by your legs, and just try keep your body facing downhill(that probably didnt help anyone much, trying to give advice). It really teaches you reaction skiing and learning to ski by feel.

i can ski moguls ok, but id have to say that i prefer steeps that you have to hopturn down... much more fun

i totally love moguls, but i'm not a straightliner.....i like to just kinda flow with them and let them choose my path for me, whether it means staying in the trough or double jumping to the next (so fun).....but letting them choose your path for you is always different, sometimes they communicate really well, and sometimes they don't
needless to say, they tire me the fuck out

Thankyou for so very clearly enlightening to just how dumb I am and how little I know. Seriously, good work. I really dont have an idea about what I, yes I, like or dislike about skiing, and due to my friend from the Tahoe area and his gal my eyes have been opened. Once again, good work.

actually sim, moguls are made by people who ski powder better than you because they're on the hill having a blast and improving as skiers whether it's a powder day or not. bumps are fun, no doubt.

Perhaps when I said that I was trying to say too much at once. What I mean is that these days if you are skiing powder and still doing quick jumping turns and relatively mellow terrain you are not skiing to your full potential. Back in the days where there was only straight narrow sticks this is how powder was skiied. However, with new technology comes a new way of doing things, and if these people truly were out getting better as you say they are they would be starting to take their powder skiing to a new level. This is what I mean, and by no means did I say people that do short turns suck, but thankyou once again for telling me just how good I am at skiing because since we ride together everyday I know you have a really accurate account of my skills.

Are we running a race? You see, I never sat here and started telling people what they can or can not think is fun about skiing. Also I really dont even know what you are saying. I am glad that you ski powder on a powder day. However, moguls are mostly made due to powder. Have you ever noticed that where it is groomed there are no moguls. They are a build up of snow and generally that snow comes from where snow has fallen, or lets call it powder. The build ups come from people turning in small radiuses. I realize that sometimes they are also duggen out, but not on most normal runs on a hill.

Is this where I put a really incredibly funny joke?

alright just to clarify that moguls are not mostly made from powder here is a real world example. Look at all the mogusl there are on the east coast, it is where some of the best mogul skiers in the US come out of, and then look at all the powder we get in the east, a very minimal amount. Therfore ur wrong sim.

as usual this post has turned into a moronically pathetic argument about the process of mogul development. back to the point: i don't think there is anything that makes you a better skier than moguls. it gives you that ability to respond to variation in the terrain better than any other aspect of skiing - and thats how you become a fuckin good skier.

Sim, that whole quitting-while-you're-behind thing sounded good... besides, don't argue with Court about skiing, she's better than you, she knows what she talking about. I don't think powder's necessary for making moguls. But personally, I don't give a fuck how they're formed or whether other people ski them...more room on the field for me.

While you are right on moguls are formed in other than just powder, that is still the main way they are formed. Moguls are formed by snow, which in many cases was at one time powder. The point remains that they are mainly formed by doing short small turns that should no longer be accepted as the best and proper way to ski these days. While I am not saying to not ski this way, because if it makes you happy then you should, but if you truly want to become the best skier you can be, the small turns must go.

I am also not doubting that moguls take skill, because I fully agree that they do. I, for one, however, just do not enjoy them and apparently I am not allowed to not enjoy them.

I also wish that I could say that I was argueing with the aforementioned, but it is hard to argue such a well put and clear point such as 'sim, you are very dumb and don't know what you are talking about.'

Oh and the burn on the skiing ability. Really well done. No disrespect as you have proven to be a good contributer to this site time and time again, but I honestly expected more. I will be one of the last people on this site this sits here and brags about his/her own skiing skills and I am not about to do it. I have never seen this gal ski, but without a doubt believe that she can rip.

Is this race over, because I dont know when it ever started?

But yeah I always thought most moguls were made when they just didn't groom the hill. Except in the cases where they actually make the moguls.
