I actually remember Dorey trying them like 3 years ago in the pipe. I also remember someone at JOI one year.. I think it may have been Jossi Wells that did double cork 14 or something.

I believe this is correct. Not sure if it was Mike Clarke, but for sure Wilson did the first double flip.

What about Rick Wrobleski or however you spell it, from SLC I think, Risky Flip where it was I believe a D-spin 720 to straight back flip, this was in 2000/2001 I think?

yep i know the first double is definately mike wilson but the first double cork, wester did a crazy one at last year JOSS, Cosco in his part Such is life, PK in Claim, Clarke and another one at the NIppon open, but seems like I'm forgetting someone ...

Yeah the Wilson Flip was basically what is called today a DJ Flip like a d-spin 7 to cork backish if I remember correctly. And I think it was the second JOI that Wells did double 14.

you guys talking only double CORKS? 'cause I mean, people have been doing doubles for many of years. since the 70's and shit.

Tobin Sutherland? did the Venus Flytrap (flair to front flip) back in the late 90's, Schrab bros were doing all kinds of doubles (sans style) around the same time.

The first double CORK I ever saw was Travis Rice on Pyramid Gap in Pop. But he's a snowboarder.

CORKS? or FLIPS?

double flips have been going on forever. "Newschool" double flips I would probably accredit to Wilson.

Double CORKS however, really started at the second JOI I believe. Andreas Had one, I think Jossi did one. Don't really know who did the "first" but i would say it was during that contest.

Wayne Wong and all his bros back in the early 70s when aerials was just beginning, they did all kinds of crazy shit. Eventually the form turned all strict and gymnastic but the first attempts at full-fulls etc. were definitely a lot more like double d-spins.

Shit, call Frankie Bear.  He did a tripple twisting quad back flip in an old Dick Barrymore film callled "A bit of Madness".  By that point Frankie could actually ski, but early on he had a tough time making it to the jump without wrecking himself.   He was a converted gymnast or diver ...can't remember which.  It's funny that there are guys out there who think freestyle started with the Blizzard of Ahs.  Props to Plake, but freestyle was around long before Greg Stump movies.   Eddy Lincoln could have spoken to that fact before this year.  RIP.  If you want to see something unreal from the 60's check out the first James Bond movie.   I haven't seen it in awhile, and I might be wrong about the movie but I think it  was "Her majesty's secret service".   Anyway, you'll know it when you see it.  A guy does a SWITCH BACKFLIP 180 on probably 210's that were like 2 x 4's.  I don't have any way to upload that, but if anyone has old Bond flics on DVD, please post that segment.  It's pretty amazing considering he hit an old freestyle kicker switch on that equipment.  That dude was 40 years ahead of his time.

Alright, in this particular Oakley ad, I remember it saying near the bottom that it was a double cork 7. This was the year they filmed X=10. It was a sequence shot in the back country and Tony was wearing the Oakley red camo suit. It prolly is in the movie too I don't really remember. Idk if it truly was a double cork but it was a few years back and may have been one of the first.

first dub corks were wester and clarke.  around the same time IIRC but in an old interview with clarke i think i remember him saying wester did them before him.

yea, there you go. "risky flip" cork 7 (d-spin if you will) to backflip. first double CORK on skis.






but as others were saying, they were doing crazy shit back in the day. remember, there might not be any style, but some of the ariel dudes today are throwing quad cork 1440's... they just give them a different name.

The first true double cork was done by Wester in practice at JOI in 2006. Clarke started doing them soon after. Double flips have been around for 35 years.

for those of you, who have been thinking jossi did double corks at JOI in 06, that was a switch double cork 14. and i don't think he really intended to, but just didn't set enough flip for the switch double cork 10. he started doing dub corks this year i think?

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  It's a little different than I remember, but that is still pretty cool.  Rossignol Equipes.  So the guy was only about 30 years ahead of his time.  Just try to imagiine switch back flipping off of something like that on straight early 70's equipment, while wearing a  backpack.  Even if that thing was just stuffed with wadded newspaper, it would still impact his ability to look back and spot.  You can see the snow flying off so his tails were starting to dig in when he was starting his flip.  I thought that the guy had watered down the lip to make as hard as possible so his tails didn't dig in, but it looks like he just side stepped it and went.  Anyway, great find.  Mad kar for you.
