Washing Ski Pants
How should I wash my pants? I heard they will lose their waterproofing if you put them in the washing machine, but I'm not sure, anyone know if this is ok?
my mom washes my pants and they came out fine. read the care tag and you'll figure it out

While we are on the topic, does anyone know a good way to get rust and paint stains from rails off my snowpants? I tried washing but it only fades the stain a little bit. I've tried hand sctubbing, but nothing seems to work.

Washing your pants is actually good for the waterproofing. Just put them in the washer its not that hard, if you are that worried abotu the waterproofness you can buy stuff called liek Nikwax that you pour in while you wash the pants and it actually adds more waterproofness to the pants

Washing Gore tex and other water proof fabirics in any kind of detergent is BAD. The reason you loose you water proofing through out the season are because the water proof pores get clogged with dirt and oil etc. The same thing happens when you wash them with any normal detergent. You want to wash them with a non-detergent soap. The company Nikwax, makes a tech wash that is designed to be just that. Nikwax is a life saver! if you live where it's wet. They make a bunch of different water proofing products that work very well. This is my little combo, wash jacket and pants in TechWash, then use the Direct Wash in water proofing, then i Waterproof my gloves with the glove spray. Each product is around 10 bucks USD. You can find them at most ski shops, or REI type stores. Just ask them where the Nikwax is, you will be very happy. This is for anyone that has lost water proofing, or wants added, or just wants to wash ski gear.

my mom uses SHOUT. just sparay it on and let it soak for as long as possible (like a day or 2) then wash it. all my rust stains came out perfectly.
