i have an assignment due tomorrow and i don't even know where to begin.

the assignment is to write a short story (500-1000 words) about anything that is a simile of how my life relates to a tree i drew.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

talk about how you grew, like the tree. you started small and hardly any branches (branches could symbolize the people you meet in your life and more important people have thicker branches) As you grew older you met more people, and grew more branches. And as you grow, your roots and trunk get stronger, just like you as you get older, you get a stronger sense of who you are and why you are here.

idk there are a lot of options you could do, this is just my thoughts...

Just run with it, make everything up as you go along, you'll have 500 in no time

the hardest part is that i have to make into an actual story. if i just had to write about how a tree relates to my life it would be way easy.

just start writing about how that tree was once young and you were once young and you both had to endure hardships and you both grew because of it? Idk something along the lines of that I guess but it's not my paper.

Most teachers accept that a page is about 250 words double spaced so dont freak out about length that is super short for a story.  As far as writing it though I am not sure how any of us could help you.  That picture makes the tree look like it is in a foreboding environment on top of a hill so write about how that tree had to endure struggles as a wee sapling and storms and winds and such but has grown to be the pinnacle of the hill.

write a story about a youngish girl who had some sort of relation to that tree. ie it played some role in her life. maybe she used to hang out under it or play in it or something crazy like it used to be her best friend because she had no friends and then this new girl arrived at school and they became friends and she stopped hanging out with the tree. then the tree got lonely and started dying. i dunno make shit up or cut the tree down and make a pair of skis with the wood. but yeah you'll be able to knock out 500 words in 30min or less if you take an idea and just run with it.
