When I first read the Stranger, I hated it... then I read it again and I liked it. It's pretty crazy just contemplating a totally absurd world... I really can't think of any similar authors but I'd totally recommend any of Camus' other stuff. He's got a fantastic essay called 'The Myth of Sisyphus' (the Homeric hero who was condemned by the gods to push a boulder to the top of a mountain, only to have it roll back down again, forever).

right now im reading a biography on camus that examines all of his works, and how circumstances in his life spawned these sick works of literature, and the author talks alot about the syphius play... i bet its slammin

i took alot from the stranger, like how he was a complete nihilist, and then turned to existentialism while meeting his end... so moving

its definitely interesting, i had to read it for a world lit class. we read a book 'pedro paramo' which was also modernist and had all sorts of crazy ass shit hidden in it, not that great, but again, interesting i think

I thought Camus was existentialist... well i guess that phenomenon happened right around modernism as well.. blah

We studied Camus in both me englsih and philosophy class. The Stranger was a really good book and I read a big excerpt from Camus on the myth of sysiphus(sp) and it was really interesting. I really want to read more of his works.

yeah i was under the impression from what i remember that existentialism was like a subcategory of modernism... but ive had a few concussions since then so who knows.
