So I made another thread on this but I'd rather re-write my situation at the top.
When I turn my computer on the screen flashes and the disk makes its noise like usual but then it just sits there with the sleep light on. Sometimes the light flashes. I tried turning it on about a week ago and somehow it worked. But that's the only time. This started a couple weeks ago maybe.
So I researched it online and reset the SMC. That didn't work. I tried resetting the PRAM but I don't think it starts up enough to be responsive to the keyboard.
I called apple support and they said that my technical support had expired and that I wasn't able to purchase any other type of warrenty/care plan because I had to do that in the first year of owning it. I could pay a $49.99 fee and he could try and talk me through it on the phone. but fuck that.. I'm also not within a $500 plane ticket to the nearest Apple store.
So NS comp wiz's what's wrong and what can I do?
Mad karmzz and three an e-high-fives to anyone who can help!
If you can find another mac and a firewire, you can try connecting them with yours in target disk mode, then IF (cross your fingers) it is being recognized use the other mac to run disk utilities on your hd. Even if you can't get yours running properly, this can be a way for you to retrieve your data before wiping your mac and starting fresh.
This will explain a little more about target disk mode - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
I had a simmilar problem a while ago, with a few differences. But it sounds to me as if your hard drive has decided to die, like mine did. Apparently its happening to quite alot of macbooks. Any way i took mine to the mac store and they quoted me $600 Australian to get it fixed. i told them to fuck off. so i found some little shop that fixed macs and they did it for $210 and that was seriously the cheapest i could find. your best getting your mac checked properly to see what the actual problem is and go from there but it does sound like a hard drive problem. and remember go searching for places to fix it. hope that helps.
I got it new two years ago when they first came out.. I have the box with most everything in it so it probably just got lost somewhere along the way. I have a few friends who have macbooks as well so I'll be able to get it. I'll pm you or bump this when I get a hold one.
