So who entered the Surface "Photo's not Firearms" Contest?
I did, but they did such a poor job of marketing it....i found the link on the front page because i was bored, i never check out those news feed, they should have made a thread (i might have missed it) to get it more exposure because i am sure lots of NS would have entered if they had known. Post up your pics that you entered guys, lets see your stuff.
yeah, to be honest i'm going to be very disappointed if the winner is someone who shot something with a super expensive camera... i mean, if you can afford $1000+ for a camera, chances are you can afford to buy yourself a pair of surfaces... still excited to see who won though
i think that is an entirely close-minded statement. people work hard for what they have, and who are you to dismiss someone because they decided that a new camera that would help them push themselves with their art, rather than buying an entirely new setup.
....not like i'm speaking from experience or anything...
I'm not saying that someone should be overlooked because they have the means to buy a camera, just that it closes the contest off from a shitload of people if this becomes a practice of photography/best quality photo rather than of self-expression and intent.
Obviously a picture shot with a professional quality camera is going to be higher quality than a commonplace digital camera, or of a disposable. Although, the winner of this contest probably had a really rad submission that could have been achieved with a lesser quality camera (assuming this is the case). I doubt surface would overlook a better picture because of its technology, that would be quite hypocritical and wouldn't really make sense with their brand.
not really, the sharpness of the lens, noise (or grain), colour graduation, and dynamic range are all more important as far as image quality, i know allot of pros who only use 6-8 megapixle cameras. mp's only really matter if your making large prints.
haha yea, they never updated their site... they opened up the contest again because they got next to no submissions the first time around. They made the announcement in a press release on the front page, i wouldnt have even known about it if i didnt randomly check the press releases because i was bored at work.
i dont think they oficially posted anythinbg yet, but they sent me an email telling me that my photo got honorable mention and they were gonna send me a softgood kit. should be posted soon tho.
