Polar bear swim

I was planning on going for a polar bear swim on vancouver island next weekend, but actualy jumping in not just walking in slowly, (from a ferry dock) but lots of people are scaring me about it, no I do not have a wet suit but im only 16 with no heart problems so I dont think im gunna have a heart attack.... is it really that stupid of an idea? and incase It comes up no i dont have a wet suit or a dry suit

we go swimming in our crick by our cabin all the time and its probally around 40 degrees. ya, your heart stops for a bit and you lose your breath, but youll be fine

you should do it, you should get some friends to stay close incase you lose your breath or get stunned

I've done it a few times this year already, it's not that hard. It's cold, yeah, but even in the chilly waters surrounding Van Island it's not terribly difficult to just jump in and swim around for a minute. Just go and take a hot shower afterwards, that feels niiiiiiiiiccccceee after a polar bear swim.

well idk about you, but round these parts we have like charity things that the polar bear club (and other like it) do.  so not only do u get to rejuvinate the body by shocking it in cold water, you feel really good that you helped to raise some money.  i don't do it because i always just surf the days it happens.  but i'd def do it.  it's something to brag about for a long time.

polar bear swims are the shit, youll definatly loose your breath but i dunno about a heart attack.  old people do it too

yeahh i do ir ive done stuff like that in early march and if you just stand outside for like 10mins before in your bathingsuit then your already kind of adjusted to the cold so its not as bad when you get in the water.

If your in shape with no heat or artery problems, your good to go. Just have people beside you when you do it in case something happens, and videotape it.

I'm in Nanaimo. Did one this year it was cold but just do it and like some guy above me said. Take a hot shower after.

in finland we drill a hole in the ice and go swim there, its not dangerous but its nog good to put your head under cold water. afterwards it is so nice to go into the sauna and just chill

i've participated in the deep creek dunk at deep creek like maryland. they break off ice and a bunch of people run in the water. i ran in and dived in the water, it was cold as fuck, but it wasn't that bad. i stayed in for 5 minutes, my buddies gave me 10 bucks for every minute i stayed in hahah. there were these 2 fat guys that stayed in for 30 min. but weren't allowed to stay in any longer by the scuba team or something. crazy.

so just do it, you will be fine. just don't panic when you jump in or you could go into shock or something. oh and get out when you need to...

you should do it, people jump off the bridge that goes over the bay to the beach in my town and then swim to shore so it cant be too bad

taking a hot shower after being really cold does feel good, but you're not supposed to because it gets the blood circulation going too quickly too fast so you should warm up from blankets and body heat before you take a hot shower

k, well I figured it was totaly fine, someone was just scaring the crap out of me because I was going to jump in and not walk in slowly.
I want to get a pic, figured that would look cool with snow coverd mountains in the background.

Nothing wrong with the Polar Bear swim, I have done it off ice before and like said above you get winded and stupid uncoordinated.  I wouldnt recommend off a ferry dock though, that is sketch.

its not that big a ferry, the waters not gunna be nasty at all. and the tide and currents help to make the water alot less nasty when its on its way to the other ferry landing.

send er in the summer me and my fam go down to capilano river where all the run off from grouse and shit goes so you could imagine its hella cold...... and also i swim under the capilano suspension bridge. i mooned it once too!!!! yea you'll be fine

and for a reboot, and its a clensing thing to do.
im going for sure, I was really just wondering about the hole jumping in rather then going in slowly thing.
and yes im gunna get a picture, whoever told me I should. I want the snow coverd mountains in the back.
