i usually just hit shit until it dulls them, but my friends (who snowboard), will not hit a rail with a new board before dulling thier edges. i find it funny my friend tommy was out in the parking lot for like 20 minutes griding a rock on his brand new edges so he wouldnt catch hahah

umm if you want to detune them without hittin rails you could go nuts with a file, or a rock even if you dont have a file handy although a file would be ideal. I like to just detune my skis by skiing them just since I love getting to shred groomers on new edges, but yea file dem bitches down.
i use a soapstone and run it 45 degrees from about 2 inches in front and in back of the bindings through the center. it def helps you to not catch an edge on rails and doesn't reallly affect my skiing all that much unless i hit a bad ice patch
u prob wont catch an edge i have never caught an edge or filed my edges down or anything
"You put on your boots, click into your bindings, dust the snow off your skis, and head out for the chair, and it doesn't matter that you failed a test, didn't get the girl, or that your life is on a one way trip down the shitter, your world is right for the next couple of hours."
ive had some pretty nast falls from not detuning my edges. So now i get my edges beveled by my local ski shop. I dont remember what the beveled them too, but i told them that all i would ride was really park.
slash pow, ride the park, build kickers, you name it!

don't detune them. i have the t-hall pros from 2 years ago and they came with factory detuned edges. I hated it. I do a lot of park, so they had plenty of time shredding the metal, but when it came time to actually ski they were really bad. It sounds like you're only hitting rails/boxes occasionally so i'll agree with everyone else and say just let it happen on its own.
