I am going up for college snow fest, as i did last year and i dont rember which mountain this was but i think there was a place to hike and ski out of bound maybe? i see the opened Outer Limit in there email and i am wondering if this is in fact what i am thinking of. If any one has other spots they know for some challenging runs and cool terrain let me know, i wanna make the most out of my trip this year, especially with all the snow!!!

Killington opened Bear yesterday, which is where outer limits is, but there really isn't any great place to go out and hike, because the woods are so thick. You can go out on the backside, off of the peak, and ski there until you get to the bottom, and hike a few miles. You can also ski off of hershey highway(the connecting trail from pico to ramshead) and ski down there an walk to the access road. Neither of those things are really worth it, because there are lots of good cleared woods trails at killington.

yea theres not much good backcountry at killington. There are a ton of woods trails. Julio and anarchy are both really sick, depending on the snow. I skiied on monday and just about every trail was absolutely sick. Also, i havent tried all the tree skiing on bear mountain but i imagine its pretty good. Check out needles eye liftline, its not tree skiing but theres lots of stumps and rocks and stuff so its fun.

yeah, the woods have great coverage right now, especially for december. check out squeeze play on rams head just because it's really fun for a blue. just watch out for the river somewhere in it..
devils den over on bear is great too. just follow devils fiddle down and cut off into it. ive heard you can go in from the top too and there's a small cliff but I've never tried so I really have no idea. Anarchy is pretty thick, but a hell of a lot of fun. there's a lot more too, I think they opened some new ones this year..?

dont go off the backside, chances are you will get lost or spend the whole day trying to get out. there isnt many good woods, and what there is gets skied out quick. if you want some better tree skiing head to Pico durring mid week.

it's possible there aren't any new ones. I only quickly glanced at the new map because usually I know where everything is so I don't use it much. I've never done growler but that's in a prime spot, I think I'll do it this year. yeah, squeeze play is def. not to be missed. I've had so much fun on that trail. one time it was snowing so hard my friends and I went all the way to the right and got lost for awhile. when I was little my dad and I skied right into the river. and of course it's so fun to fly through it at high speeds. good stuff if you're over on that side of the mt.
true that if you don't know where you're going you could get lost on the backside or end up on the highway with a long hike ahead. I'd suggest researching the area first and getting a map as well if you do that. also, I think Pico is closed during certain days mid week now for some stupid reason so check if it's opening before going.
