Kinda long, I apologize.
Ok so I just got back from my local shop and picked up some Falcon 09's. Basically I have retartedly shaped feet, "pins and needle" sensation, parasthesia, basically lots of foot pain. So this shop guarantees boot fit for one whole yea, aka if they don't ski right, I can return them/exchange them for full credit. I had a great bootfitter with over 20 years experience so I trust this guy. He recommended these even though I told him park -> all mountain.
Ok, so I'm 6'0'', 180lbs, 20 years old, expert skier. The boots are 100 flex and I can flex them very far. The only thing I was wondering about, is 100 flex too much for freesking? This is my first time buying boots in over 5 years so I don't have too much experience in the process. The fitter spent over 3 hours shaping the boots, and he did a LOT of work, but they seem to solve my foot pain. The dude also told me to come back after 2 days of skiing and he will do whatever further modifications are needed.
After coming home I looked them up and they are "race" boots. Does this really mean anything? As long as the boots fit right I should be fine right? I looked up some threads and people said race boots will give me very bad shin bang, but these seem to hold my thighs really tight, so I hope that won't be an issue.
doesnt mean shit that there race boots....just like "race" bindings doesnt mean shit...it basically just means they r more performance orientated and in boots case a narrower last (width) so there more responsive ...100 flex isnt to stiff but i think those are actually 90 flex...alot of park skiers prefer something even stiffer like 120ish
yeah the most important thing about boots is whether they fit or not, them being race boots won't really matter, and that flex isn't really that stiff, aren't spk's 90?
oh yea i think they are actually 90 flex, it says falcon 90 on the back but the guy at the shop said 100. thanks for the responses
flex rating doesn't mean anything. the only thing it's useful for is differentiating between boots from the same company (i.e. salomon spk vs. falcon gun). so don't worry about the number itself, it's essentially useless.
in addition, no, they are not too burly. i used falcon guns last year as my park boot and they are definitely stiffler than the 9's. and i'm smaller than you. you'll be fine. they're great boots that treated me oh so well.
They are 100 flex.
If you are a fan of the falcon shell, look into the Gun boot. It is the same shell, only a tad softer i believe.
