Cardio/Losing weight question

Alright, my friend said if I wanted to lose weight I'd have to run.

I don't understand this, I know running is cardio which means it gets your heart pumping fast but my question to NS is, why running?

I personally hate running, I CAN run but its just uncomfortable to me and I'd much rather be in a gym lifting but I figured if I did upper body cardio like rows would that be just as effective at losing weight as running? If so what other exercises using gym equipment could I do to lose weight? I'm thinking of high rep low weight exercises.

Running has been proven not to be the most effective way to loose weight, but if you want to speed up the process do HIT training. Building muscles by working out will burn more calories in the long run. With running your calorie loss will stop after work out, with weight training calorie loss will continue up to two days. Eating properly is the biggest thing in losing weight and is the hardest to follow through with. If you combine the two your results will double. I recommend going to bodybuilding.com and doing research for yourself.

You just need to take burn more calories then you eat and you will lose weight.  If you want to lose fat you're gonna have to run or do some kind of aerobic activity.  Weightlifting is anaerobic and will just burn up your glycogen stores.  Something that is low/med intensity for a long time works best.

Bingo.

Doing cardio without dieting (to lose weight) is like....uhhh...skiing on grass.. .It just wont be as effective.

you can set up a circuit training plan but i would just play basketball and try to act as much like manu ginobili as you can.  that'll get your heart pumpin'.

combining weights/cardio has always been the best way to lose weight
you can also change your diet, drink more water, etc.
I find that what burns the most fat for me is a rowing machine
