I wanted to set up an FTP through my computer so my friends could download some of my music. what do i need to do, what programs do i need?
I run a dell notebook e1505, with windows xp home edition and a 500 mb external hard drive. i currently have 50,000 songs that i want to share, however its ever growing.

Lookup filezilla, i believe they have an FTP server program. Then you just have to open up the right ports on your computer and maybe your router. Google is very helpful for things like this.

Shit, I'd be so down. But yeah, I'm not good enough at networking to know how to run that properly.

no worries dude,
with 50,000 songs to share you might wanna check out the bandwidth allowances of your broadband connection. if its unlimited they might get slightly suspicious if theres suddenly huge amounts of data being downloaded from your connection. there might also be some clause about not being able to use your connection as a server. probably wouldnt be a problem though
