WM films arent meant to be newschool skiing flicks at all. its a totally different feel.
i think it would be killer to have warren miller narrate a newschool film though. plehouse or L1p would be sick.
warren miller doesnt make movies anymore. he has nothing to do with any of the new ones or the ones in the past few years. after he gave his son the company and the son sold it, his movies were ruined. he doesnt film them, edit them or choose the riders. they hire him to say a few words to make it seem like a warren miller movie, but alas, its not.
warren miller is sick
he gave me a free dvd(Storm) and autographed it
probably the best ski movie ive seen because its all just about being in the mountains and skiing
his son ruined everything he had going. Warren could have covered all aspects of skiing not just the spinny flippy genre and still made a kick ass movie. His narration was one of the best parts of his movies. oh well. He is still a great person with a great retirement i bet.
go look up the yellowstone club in montana and then still be a fan of warren miller. you have to own a fucking $4 million condo to be a member and then pay some obscene amount of money a month to remain a member. they are rich pompous assholes who only ski to flaunt their money. props to warren, sellllllllout.
though i do have a kickass "skiing's great" poster of his from the 80s. and he reps the PNW.
i started watching his ski movies and theyre like a whole different genre of ski films than recent ones but i like how they relate to the love of the mountains and they get me pumped to ski come winter
since when is a skiers ability based on how well they do switch 10s? It just depends what crowd you're talking. There's legions of people that follow ski racing, especially in europe. It's just a different sport.
(Yes, I know it's andy mahre, so spare the usual don't realize who you're replying to posts)
yeah but in this crowd of ns, it is really true. maybe not just how you do sw 10s but that kind of mentality really applies to how everyone here sees skiers, unless you are really really good at what you do (seth, pollard, etc) then it's like you have to have a certain set of tricks like sw 1080's that you HAVE to be able to do well or you suck compared to other skiers.
and i think he was more referring to the attitude in ski movies. there aren't too many ski movies about ski racing.
actually that's a good thing. skiing is driven by real estate now in a large part; the people with the money are beginning to exert more and more influence on the people running the ski areas. yellowstone club makes it so that people go there instead of invading other resorts and trying to convert them into another vail for them.
basically private ski areas would help keep the flaunters happy while keeping the places that we love free of them.
