Im 6'5, about 185, aggressive advanced skier. Ive been skiing the armada ARV 185 with Look pivot 12's, and have loved this setup. I enjoy the stability they offer since im a tall guy, and really dont want a shorter ski. I just bought a pair of Diamir AT bindings and am looking for a good ski to mount them on. I ski mainly in colorado. Basically im looking for something thats light enough to hike in, fat for the powder and stability for my height, yet somewhat agile. I'm a "beginner" bc skier, so an "easier" ski is preferable, but i dont want something that will hinder my performance in the future. So, im looking for the perfect ski everyone dreams of! Any suggestions on what ski to buy ? thanks yall
Both a backcountry jibber style of ski. Soft and fun. The JPs would be on the light side of a fat ski(weight size) so this would be a bonus since youll be skinning.
Seth - Ive toured with the 189 and it was managable but really heavy. I had it setup alpine with trekkeres though, so your Freerides will make it lighter. I love the Seth. More of a charging ski compared to the previous two. The 189 is significantly stiffer than the 179, but also heavier.
Seconded on the recommendation to try TGR. The JP vs Julien would be a pretty sweet choice as it is both an awesome ski and ridiculously light. The problem is the massive twin isn't the easier thing to attach skins too.
PM Gear Bro Models are a very popular choice over on TGR as well. 99mm waist (or 113/114 in the fatty) light for their size, and with a half twin.
k2 Coomba's are supposed to be a great AT ski although few people have skied them. 103mm waist, flat tail and uber-light (apparently). Something to check out in the fall for sure.
After those, look into skis by Black Diamond or other touring specific companies. That is getting well out of my knowledge base, but I'm sure you'll find info on them on TGR or telemark-tips.
