I believe there must be an explanation for how we got here. I also believe that there are a lot of wars in the world over certain peoples beliefs. So why is it such an issue I wonder? Why is it that some people would go as far as killing another person to prove their religeous belief? I mean, some people think McDonald's is better than Wendy's and some think the opposite, but when it comes right down to it, it's just a personal belief and you don't see driveby shootings over it.

Personally: it's all just coincidence that we are here, there is no meaning, only the reason. particles combined coreectly and the universe as we know it was formed. People will try to argue that theory by saying something like 'that chances of things heppening exactly right are a trillion to one'. But who is to say that it hasn't happened a trillion times and we are the result?

dude... Look at something so simple as a pencil, and then look at something like an egg. The pencil is a good creation. It can make markings on paper and it has paint on it, and it can be ground down over and over to be re-used. But still, it is a relativly simple design. Now look at an egg. it has an amzing shell that is brttle to hatch babies, but still structuraly strong so that it doesnt break very easily. It can be eaten, or produce life. It has millions of cells in it, membranes around the yolk, the egg white... and all of these million little things have their seperate functions that are extremely complex. A human could never create something like an egg, but they can create a pencil. So, I guess you what you are trying to say is that, the pencil, or anything else materialzed has a creator, but the egg , something very complex that produces life, doesn't. Logic would try to put it the other way around, even knowing that the pencil was created, and the egg wasnt. It would only make sesne that way. But dude, its a free world so think what you wish.

OK, so you're saying that an egg being created purely by chance would be highly unlikely?

That can be argued against again by saying that if the chances of a universe being created which contains complex structures like eggs is a trillion trillion trillion (etc. etc.) to one, then it still is possible.

But how do you explain where the particles came from if you believe in the big bang theory (2 particles colliding in space...). Maybe God created the 2 particles and created the earth that way???

Origin of particles: yes, that's where the big bang theory falls apart somewhat. I don't have the answers. Both sides have flaws.

according to quantum mechanics there is another earth doin the same thing we are doing. Like theres a person with your name doin the same thing your doing right now. Isn't that insane to think about? Im not saying you have to believe that the egg was created... its just that if you look at the complex things, which humans don't know if they were created or not, and compare them to the simple man-made things which we know HAVE been created, then LOGICALLY you would assume that the complex things were also created, and you would choose creation over chance, but if you want to choose chance over logic than go right ahead. I tried to read up on the whole parallel universes thing, and creation and all that other stuff in the special issue that Scientific American put out...but after a while, your brain starts reeling...it really is interesting tho..i suppose people like to believe in something greater cuz it suggests that theres always someone there to help u out of a rut.. it takes the pressure off of people, and makes them put Faith into something that they believe will help them...anyways, i believe in God, and my beliefs have really worked out for me and kept me really grounded

here's my 2 cents.

1. there's another theory besides the particle theory that has been discussed -> string theory. i'm not even going to attempt to explain it, but if you're interested, steven hawking is the source to look to.

2. eggs are single cell organisms.

3. i believe that 1080s analogy is fallacious. a pencil and something more complex, like water for example, are relavantly dissimilar enough to constitute a very weak argument by analogy.

i can sit at my house right now and make an ice cube. i have used an element that is naturally occuring, this doesn't mean i have the ability to create a new element. creating a pencil and creating a self renewing cyclical piece of our earth are extremely different acts. i think it's very illogical to reason that because of our ability to adapt and make use of nature, the universe was created by some supreme being.

as you can probably infer, i'm an evolutionist, and i welcome any and all criticism, support, or any other remarks people are willing to throw my way.

there is one thing that i believe i can say with 100% certainty: if there is a god, i'm not it.

ok if its so hard to believe the big bang theory....particles coming together forming single celled organisms evolving into more complex forms. why is it so easy to believe there is a larger than life figure looking over us creating everything we see and hear? Who made god? were did he come from? People say its too hard to believe that humans just came together as particles..but its easier to believe there is some sort of higher being looking over you that just creates shit? That seems like the easy way out.I dunno I'm not saying one thing or the otehr because i have no idea but there are so many questions to be answered before i believe one side or the other.

i think the meaning of life is to find truth. to realize what world you are in, and how to make it better, not to just simply exist, and put up with shit. you need to find *how* to make your life work, and try to find *why* it fucks up. Basically, the reason for existance is to figure out why you're here.

Life is too fucking important to be taken that seriously. If we knew how life was created would it really make a difference? What would change in your life. Life is ill, the only purpose in life is too live. I hate to push my beleifs but god was created at the time of the division of labour. The chances of a 'god', in the western context, existing are slim to none. Sceintists have recently discovered that our brains are endowed with the ability to experience god. During a meditation, serious prayer or any intense spiritual experience brain waves slow down in the part of our brain that governs spacial sense, thus we feel closer to the earth and those around us. this is the way i like to put it into perspective. if you are an evolutionist, you believe we came from what the scientific communtiy refers to a cosmic egg. basically that is a ball of dirt that exploded and made up everything in existance around 20 billion years ago. if you are a creationist, you likely believe that god created everything. so as a creationist i believe 'in the beginning, god...', but on the other hand, evolutionists believe 'in the beginning, dirt...' or 'in the beginning, particles...'

i would rather believe in god than dirt or particles.

oh man. im not trying to sound better than you or anything, but in my free time for the past two years that is the topic that i have researched endlessly because it really interests me, creation vs evolution that is. i have read many books on it, and watched many videos about it, getting points about it from both sides. i have been to seminars and debates, and i am probably more 'enlightened' than all of you, and my apologies if im not. my last post was just me putting it into perspective, and believe me, thats pretty much all you need to know, because if you actually look into the evolution theory, it just falls apart.

and sorry mike i didnt answer your question. most people try and compromise religion with evolution like you offered- but there really is no need. you dont need to say 'well god could have started the process and evolution could have taken over,' because the creation theory actually makes more sense than the evolution theory, believe it or not.
