dspin7x... I am a newbie skier, and no i'm not a slow learner.
Last year was my first year skiing, we're not a rich family and I had spent all my money on a $1000 bike so I did a little work and got $80 which I spent on my entire setup as well as a little money from my parents. I bought ancient Rossignol Boots for $30 and Salomon s500 bindings for $80, I used old bent poles and straight skis in 160cm that were my Uncles when he was a kid, I had them tuned tho :P
In that year I learned how to ski for the second time (i skied a couple times with my school in previous years). I didn't think I'd be jumping at all but when me & some friends went to the golf course we built some jumps on the slope and there I hit my first ever jump just doing straight airs. A couple days later we built a decent jump on the street I live on (sloped) where I learned safety grabs, 180s, and 360s in the same day.
Later on in the year I started going into the park and I was hitting the top tabletop which was about 30ft or so, I looked at a pic and I was up pretty high. Then, on a snowy day I did my first 360 on a small tabletop, I was so pumped. That was my last day skiing though. But we had a little storm at my house and I learned how to slide rails natural and unnatural and learned a 180 liu kang and a 360 liu kang on a small jump.
.....
I loved skiing so much at that point and since my equipment sucked so bad I bought new stuff. I bought Line 1260s because they were my dream ski, I got Rossignol Free XX boots because they were on sale, and I got Salomon s810 CP bindings because they were on sale too. I got a pair of Oakley O-Frames since my old goggles sucked, and my parents hooked me up with a helmet and poles.
I was waiting for skiing so much that I made tramp skis and learned all the grabs I didn't learn the previous year and spins up to 720 and unnatural spins up to 540. But the skis were bulky and the shoes on them were unstable, I ended up tearing the right side of my ankle, when i looked at it hanging there limp and i couldn't even move it, i thought about skiing.
Luckily the ski season started very late so it gave my ankle a while to heel up better.
My first day on snow that year was before the resort was even opened. Me(15), my friend Ryan (15), his brother Kevin(12), their friend Wade (12) and my brother Adam (12) all hiked up the hill. We went up a couple towers and my brother and his friends stopped to build a jump. Me and Ryan kept hiking up only to ski some shitty wet snow down even though it felt good except my ankle fuckin burned.
On the way down I hit my brother's jump and my first Japan and my dad took a pic. We got tired of their small jumps so we went and built a way bigger jump on a slope on the bunny hill. It was only about waist height but with speed you could go pretty big. I did my first Tailgrab there and then my friend tried a 360 and wiped so I hit the jump and did a small 3. Everyone said it was super smooth so I kept doing them until I was going way bigger than before.
Later in the year we built a kicker after the resort was open and threw my biggest three ever on the biggest jump i'd ever hit. Everyone said it was stylie and everything and the guy with the video camera said he got it... when we watched it later I found out it never made itself onto the camera... :(
Anyways, I skied park the rest of the year because the conditions sucked and I was doing unnatural slides on the up kinked funbox, landing fakie on the hip, and doing 180 safeties/liu kangs on the small tabletop and 360s too, I also did some small zero spins, switch 180s, and switch 360s too. It was a tiny jump but I was afraid if I hit the 30ft step down and cased it I'd mess up my ankle really bad.
So that was my year, I am a newb, I might even suck compared to dspin7x but I probably have a fuckload of potential compared that that guy. Now that my ankle is almost completely healed I'm gonna be able to go big without feeling pain when i land and having the risk of fuckin it up again. I've learned loads of tricks on the trampoline (7 safety, misty 7 safety), on freestyle walking stuff, on rollerblades (unnatty 270 out etc). Next year, dspin, I'll show you some footage, and you'll regret what you said.
