have you guys noticed how Raps plants his left pole almost everytime he hit a kicker? why?

yea now that you say it i guess, i guess its just a thing he does to time up the jump. my cousin does it too it looks gay when he does it with both poles to do straight air but whatver

It actually really helps with timing and I think it kinda makes Evan's jumps look more stylie...I learned how to do my 3's without prespinning by planting my left pole.

yeah i was just going to say that it is most likely from moguls cause you learn to do 4 point take offs and all of that.

totally yeah, I always plant my left pole when doing any kind of spin unless it's big, then I just use my arms and throw, but when I'm doing striaght air tweaked out grabs I always do the same pre-jump motion with my poles, I just hold them out in front of me, I dunno why really.

I used to plant my poles all the time...but then when i started grabbing my spins i found it hard to get balanced right with the plant, so i learned how to spin without it.

It help a lot to set the rotation... you do not even have to wind up when you plant the pole,. you just use the pole to rotate and it help a lot for corked spins...

its a good wind up thing for spins. alot of mogulists do it but that has already been mentioned.

I only wind up on those little soft kickers ... cause planting the pole would destroy the jump.

It also help a lot when you want to grab just after you set the spin...( which look better)
Candide use the pole plant technique too and it works well, you should try that instead of winding up...

It also helps to stay on axis when you do bigger spins.

Yeah, in mogul comps to get full points they have to plant both poles right at the top of the jump, it's probibly just habbit from that.

You DO NOT have to plant both poles at the top of a jump to get full points in a mogul competition. That's complete nonsense.

no, they use the pole to extend as much as they can at the top of the jump, so they get more air time.

They DO NOT use the poles to get more air time. Again, that's complete nonsense. The poles are used solely for timing. Technically, skiers don't even need poles. They are just aids for timing.

they extend as they plant the poles, and extending at the top will throw them higher.
They use the pole plant to get the right timing to extend at the top of the jump.

I think raps just did all the freestyle sports, a bit of moguls a bit of ariels maby even some balet depending on when he did it.

ha hyea cause he always does little 360's off his poles on the ground and i think somewhere in the gravity games vid or somethnig they say something about him diong aerials im just guess that is where i heard it though.

in the warren miller movie, 'learn to ski better 2' than i have, it teaches you to do 4 point take offs and landings. on both jumps, and on cornices. ive heard it helps with learning rotations.

and how does planting ur poles help with timing ur jump in moguls? YOURE DOING A TWISTER TWISTER SPREAD!!! you jump, you twist twice, open ur legs, and come down. no real timing needed.

Freestyla, poles are everything for timing. I don't care if it's moguls or other terrain, that's what they are there for. When you do a four-point takeoff for a straight trick (like a tts or something) then the planting is coordinated with when you pop. The same applies for a 3-point takeoff when spinning.

Unless you have an actual freestyle moguls background, you probably won't understand because some of the concepts we talk about are just too foreign. But for those who do, they will all agree that it's one of the most fundamental aspects of properly catching air.

dude, freestyla...have u ever done moguls and that stuff?...its harder than u think, and its ALL about timing, if u do it too early, ull eat shit, if u do it late, u dont do anything...and when i plant my pole it helps me stay on axis and stuff...

yeah johnny used to be in ski ballet i think, cause in the first open, after his dinner roles, hed do these crazy pole plaants and stuff, he could do a front by planting his poles, pretty tight
