Installing firewire

How do i install my firewire card? I plugged it into an open pci slot, and shit isn't happening. I need some help

now when i click the card on the list of stuff that has been connected, and click next, it says, device cannot start. And thats it

like on a cd? no, nothing, just the card, and some illusttrations on how to install it. I bought it from circuit city. where would i get the drivers

haha really, uh, just try shuting down your computer completely and then put the card in, and then turn it on, and see if it recognizes the device.

I have now uninstalled it, and re-instaled it, and it says the same thing. IT is recognized and everything, and it trys to install on it's own, and then a window in the bottom right pops up and says "an error occurred when tryin to run this device blah blah blah..."

what does it show in the device manager??
it would be listed as a 1394 adapter probably...

(start->settings->control panel double click system, hardware tab, device manager button)

I'm assuming red exclamation point on top of a green glob.

all the recommendations I see about errorcode 10 is to make sure that the computer is up to date with service packs/hotfixes .. go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to make sure that you have all windows updates.

if that doesn't work, go to the device manager again doubleclick on that device and click on something like update driver.

other things i read worked was removing a PCI USB card if there is one (power problems).... and a bunch of more advance stuff.

good news, i finally figured it out. the slot i was using was bad, i moved it to a new one, and viola, it worked.
