I am so sick of people making posts like this. Emo is not gay, I'm betting none of you haters can even name one legitimate emo band (you'd probably say Simple Plan or something). There's good and bad emo just like all music. Some of it is untalented and whiny, just like a whole lot of every genre today sucks. There's also normal and abnormal kids who listen to it. I listen to a fair amount of it and I'm a pretty happy kid.

I shouldn't even try to justify the music, if you don't like it I probably won't convince you otherwise. But you brainless idiots mechanically mouthing "emo sucks" with no clue what you are even talking about should just FUCKING DROP IT. Use the search button so you can find old threads, and then you can all post your incredibly pointless and unoriginal replies saying "yeah emo sucks!"

Its not so much the music that bothers me its the style. They wear tight ass pants! Like have you ever been walking behind an emo kid? ok. not everyone that listens to so called 'emo' music wears girls pants, almost noone I know of does. I don't own one pair o baggy jeans, and I don't own a pair of girls jeans, I just wear pants that acually fits me. it's not about your fucking clothes, or your haircut, it's about the music you listen to.
And, emo music is NOT only about lost love as you may think, just hit up plyrics.com or some other lyrics site and read some of the stuff.

emo lyrics (real emo, not simple plan/dashboard confessional) is often questioning the way we treat eachother and the way we define ourselves, and the reason I literally fell in love with Thursday and Thrice (semi-emo) is because of their deep fucking lyrics. I can seriously relate to every damn song theyve made, and ive been through some deep shit, and when im feeling down I just go listening to some and then it all just seem easier, its hard to explain.

SO, seriously, please, all you emo bashers, just read through some of the lyrics and I hope your opininon on emo changes just a little.

some of those posts about why emo was not so shitty were very well put. I dont like that style very much either I must say, but to each their own. The music, well, I went to the warped tour/emofest, and a lot of it sucked, like hawthorne heights, MCR, Alexisonfire. I saw Thrice too but dont remember it. Some emo IS actually musically and lyricly good, its true, Snowpatrol, Billy Talent, etc... But punk is for sure a more fun style than emo, which is closer to gothic... Dont rock the haircut AND the pants, only one of each, and you'll look more normal.

Realize that not all people who go to shows, or have black hair are emo. Even if you listen to emo music, it doesn't mean your an emo kid. The main qualification is your fucking personality...i.e. being emo-tional. There are alot of unpleasant whiney "emo" kids in it just to "look cool" and belong to a group. They wear tight girls pants, and obsess over stupid things...like the so called "scene." I'm friends with some so called emo kids that are alright. I like to go to shows. It's fun, it's a social event, I like certain "hardcore" music and some that is specifically Emo, but also alot of other music. I like skiing, and free ride mountainbiking. I have black hair that I wear in a somewhat EMO fashion. I like interesting clothes, and wear normal fitting girl pants because of the cut, I don't wear skin tight pants and I'm not gay or bisexual. I'm not straight edge either. I'm probably not that much different than most people on this site.

The way I dress shows that I'm not a prep, a gangsta', or white trash. Yeah, death to fucking emo, death to all the bad things about certain emo kids like their racism, but don't generalize so much. You'll get like old people who assume that all kids who wear hoodies are in gangs.

I don't care about the music, i don't see what attracts people to it but if they like it then fair enough. i regularly go to a club in my town that playsa varietyof alternative music. Everyone gets along fine, but then there is the emo room. Admittedly, some ofthe people in there are friendly, but most are a bunch of pretentious cunts. If you don't have emo hair, or jeans that cut off the circulation to your legs, then you are not cool. (apparently this is called being either scene, or un-scene). Most genres of music have there stereotypes, but its a bit much when you have to dress a certain wayso that you can listen to a type of music. I find that emo kids all tend to talk shit about music, usually argueing whether a band is emo, screamo, hardcore, post-hardcore etc etc. Who gives a shit really, to me it all sounds the same (although i can usually pick out so called emo bands by less screaming and more whining).
The thing i find funny, is that in the uk, emo hadn't been even heard of until about 18 months ago.Its turned into the biggest trend within the alternative scence, which i think is pretty sad. As with being a skater, in a years time most will have given up their greasy hair and tight jeans and will be the people following the next fashion.
However the scariest thing i've found, is that emo has a tendency to actually turn people gay. Im not taking the piss out of what they wear now, but im seeing more and more emo guys kiss each other in the name of being emotional. i have questioned them before on this, (as shamefully a couple were my mates), and they looked at me and said, 'it's ok to kiss other men, it shows im comfortable with my sexuality'. Bullshit, it shows you are a fag. For proof this isn't just my area being a hotspot for poofters, check out myspace.
And shadow, you are pathetic, you have not put across one good point for your arguement, and you sound an emotional young teen who needs a good beating.
